Hey what's up everybody so I have this 96 p38 and recently the drive shaft broke off on me, and as it broke it started to hit everything underneth the car like the trans, the floor board, etc. But after all this comotion the gear shift got stuck on 3rd gear, so I went underneth to look at the damage and everything looks fine but the lever that's attach to the linkage And trans looks bent I'm not sure if it's suppose to look like this or what. Well I don't know what else to do so if anybody has any idea or has had a similar problem please let me know

The odds are it damaged more than just the linkage, but in order to fix the issue, I am pretty sure you have to drop the transmission to fix the linkage if that is the true issue.

by the way this is only the second P38 where I have heard of the driveshaft coming apart.

normally this will tear up some wiring as well, you may be able to fix without dropping, but the odds are against it.

This recently happened to me, in fact, I think I may be the other person Joey is speaking of in his post. At first it looked like just a bent linkage however, when the repair guy attempted to bend the linkage back the rod broke. I ended up needing an XYZ shifter, transmission pan, many shredded wires needed replacing and of course the rod and front driveshaft. I have the list of repairs once I dig it out I'll post for you. In the end I opted to replace the transmission because all of the damaged parts that were attached needed to be repaired anyway and with the broken rod there was still some uncertainty of the health of the transmission after the repairs.
