Rear Ladders on LR4

I don’t think those were the original ones though were they? It was my understanding they were left side mounted (driver’s side for my market).
I’m leaning toward the Front Runner option though it’s a shame they’ve doubled in cost from what they were originally.

No, actually I prefer it mounted on the passenger side… away from the traffic side of the vehicle.
Moreover, the first rung is a little lower and I prefer that.

That makes sense too, I have looked at that option too but wasn't 100% sure it would clear my existing roof rack or not (full length BajaRack). I think it would, but I was hesitant with ladder options that stick above the door line.

I don't know if you are still looking for a ladder but I have a Voyager Rack ladder [https://voyagerracks.com/] and it served me well (until 2017 when I had to take it off due to the Italian highway police gave me a ticket because it allegedly obstructing the license plate). I also had a Voyager Roof Rack (I still have both but I took the roof rack off in 2019 because I then went to the UK and wasn't planning on doing much off-roading but plenty of highway driving). I used the ladder a lot with the roof rack on and it is quite solid (I am about 200 lbs). One design change I would make (as the Italians allude) is that it doesn't really need the bottom step, particularly if you have the heavy bumper and wheel carrier.
The Roof Rack (fully loaded) plus ladder (and not yet the heavy steel bumper) are shown in the attached photo from 2013 (which is actually on Voyager Racks website).
Regarding that particular item, folks are right that the rusting of all these steel items is a problem (the nature of steel) and that the Voyager Rack does have that rather odd metal upright piece - it never got in the way for me but it is there (and I am not totally sure what it is supposed to / why it is necessary).
I don't think there was ever an OEM or even Safety Devices variant ladder and/or roof rack (I ordered everything Land Rover made back in 2010!)
Out of curiosity - I am wondering what folks think of the design (in this case for a DISCO 2 and nothing available yet for the DISCO 4/LR4) :

The Hyena design is very angular (which I like much better), and in this case aluminum (so both lighter and won't corrode like steel).
Perhaps there would be interest in Hyena accessories? I am presently chatting with the folks at Hyena about the potential for LR4 accessory production.

I’ve got the front runner, it sticks up about a half inch. I’ve had mine 5 years or more and the finish has held up great in northern Utah with plenty of sun and snow.
