I recently purchased an Engel 45 Fridge for a trip from San Diego do Cabo San Lucas.
Every time I turn the engine off and remove the key, it turns the fridge off. Is there a way to wire the plug to be always on?

You'd have to route a power cable directly to the battery, but I would only recommend that if you set up a dual battery system. Otherwise, you run the very real risk of draining your primary starter battery and being SOL.

It would be cheaper and easier to buy the insulating jacket for the fridge. But it should stay pretty cool between drive times. It's basically just like a cooler with ice that can last a few days before the ice is gone.... but you just don't need any ice :)

The easy way to do this is to use a battery backup pluged into a inverter then to the 12v outlet. I did this and it works for me.

Can you post some details? Battery location, inverter details, wiring basics? I'd really like to have battery backup on my LR3.

I use a triplite battery backup pluged into a 300 watt dc to ac inverter. I plug the fridge into the battery backup. It is only good for short stops, I'd say under 20 Minutes. I dont know the spec on the Engel Fridge, this inverter might not be powerfull enough. You could also use a jump pack that is pluigged into the 12v outlet.
