I wanted to give an update on my idle problem, since I like to find the resolution to problems when I do a search in the forum.

A while ago I posted a question about an issue I had with my Disco I. Basically the problem happened when it was warm outside and I have been driving around doing errands. I would go to start and the engine couldn’t hold idle and eventually died, unless I gave it some gas. It did not happen at stop lights, just when I started it.

The problem was the stepper motor (IAC valve), when I pulled it out it was completely cover with carbon. I soaked it in some throttle body cleaner and cleaned it all out.
Problem fixed.

Regards,

Chelo

Good to hear you got it fixed! I had an issue with my idle running very high and did the same thing, fixed it right up. I was pretty happy about it, but unfurtunately the same day I got that taken care of, my starter crapped out on me! Good 'ol rovers!

Sounds like the stepper. What year Disco do you have? If you have a D1 (94-early 99 in the US) a search for IAC or stepper on this site will lead you to a pic posted by RoverChic, who used to post here a lot. It's attached to the (facing engine) right side of the intake plenum, right by the breather tube that runs from air hose to top of valve cover. Disconnect the wiring harness and use a 5.5mm nut driver to unhook. Clean in throttle body cleaner, brake cleaner, really any degreaser, and reinstall.

EDIT: I see from your profile you have a 95. The above instructions should work for you.
