I think I heard before that if you replace the factory head-unit you will have to replace all the wiring to the speakers. I have not attempted it seems like I have enough problems I don't need to create more.

I would take to a stero shop.

Good Luck

In a 97' the alarm won't go haywire. But....you will have to either run the speaker wires from the Head Unit to the speaker only side of the amp or even better, you could run all new wires from each speaker to the Head Unit.

Do NOT use the speaker connections from the original HU at the dash/connectors....you will then be connected to the "live" side of the LR amplifier (passenger side kick panel - on NAS vehicles) the amp will give you nothing but whine and hum and hiss etc......it uses a different phase and grounding system.

Using the existing sub woofer will be a bit more complicated.

i have an indash Pioneer with XM Satellite radio/mp3 player and found the only smart thing to do was get it installed professionally. No point cheaping and out scewing up when you have such and expensive truck as it is. Shell out the $45 (what i payed) and live worry free and enjoy the sounds that flow.

Hmm...

Just picked up my 04 Disco and I'd like to replace the stereo with a Sirius unit. I understand Alpine may make on which will allow me to continue to use the CD changer (for my wife--I listen to MP3s now) as well as the steering wheel controls. Anyone done this before? I have no problem paying to have it installed correctly.

Wondering if it's worth the problems...
