lack of power 57 plate defender

hello all.can any one help?? i have a 57 plate defender 90.(it has the ford 2.4 common rail engine).the vehicle suffers with a lack of power when pulling away from junctions(this can be dangerous at times) no engine management lights are on.when this happens it will normally clear in about 10 or 15 seconds but sometimes you have to recycle the ignition.i have changed the fuel filter but this made nodifference.has anyone got any ideas???
