I just purchased a 2008 lr3 last week and love the truck. Had it off road in the mountains in the snow was incredible but I did get some beauty marks. My major problem is I cant seem to use the turn signals without flashing or turning on the high beams. Not sure if my truck has a problem or I may doing something wrong. Second I cant get the back seat down without climbing in through the rear door can that be done from the back hatch? For the new owners have any decide to purchase the extended warranty?

Congrats on the purchase! There should be a pretty clear difference in the turn signal stalk between the blinkers and the high beams. You have to push the stalk forward for highs and pull it to flash. As for the back seats, you have to go in through the back door to lower the seat cushion and then flip the backrest down.

I had the same problem with the turn signal, but only when signaling right. My fix was practice, practice, practice.

Thanks for your replies. I will try to get a little practice before I take her back to the dealer. I really enjoy the terrain response system. I about knocked myself out with the rear seat last night trying to get the seat down and load some boxes. I pushed down on the back of the seat and it flipped up.

Wow, I can't believe your dealer didn't go through and show you how to do these things like the seats! Definatelty pay them another visit and ask to be shown this stuff. There are so many cool and unusual features to this truck that a thurough tour is very important. Congrats on your purchase! I look forward to answering many more of your questions here on the forums.

Right now I am trying to master the turn signal!!! (with no luck I may add) I sat in my carport for 15 minutes last night the neighbors think its hilarious. One question if descending a steep snow coverd road best to use HDC in low range or just select snow with TR in Hi?

HDC is REALLY slow (2-6MPH) although it can be adjusted. How steep? If just a short, steep driveway then maybe, all the way down a hill I wouldn't. I'd probably use low range to get down.

Personally, I wouldn't use HDC at all on snow/ice. I don't care what LR says or whatever...I'd use low range and engine braking (TR mode won't matter going down).

HDC is cool, but it still uses a friction-based brake...on ice, this can (and does) induce a slide.

Interesting, I never thought of turning the HDC off I off-road frequently in the mountains and have always used the HDC. If Im not mistaken it comes on automatically with the snow/ice TR selection. I did take my F250 down an icy hill my neighbors wouldnt venture selected Lo range and gear 2 - best part about it was when the truck slowly did a 180 I had a nice view of my neighbors waving at me!!

Just cant see turning the HDC off. I went down a snow and wet leaf cliff side road at one point a large stump crossed my path had to hit the gas and head toward the cliff to gain traction and go around it I think with just lo range I would be in a ditch or over the cliff it was like driving on ice. I understand your point and do hate the noise of the HDC.

It's really hard to answer this question without saying something brilliant and perceptive, like "Hmmm... it depends...."

As Sean wrote, HDC is pretty slow if you are in low range, but it works a bit more intuitively in high range, and it can be adjusted by toggling your cruise control speed buttons to increase or decrease speed. I would use it if the hill was very icy and the prospects of the rear end catching up the front end were really high (as in steep, off camber, perhaps a curve or turn involved, etc...)

But generally, I don't use HDC, I use engine braking via Command Shift of the tranny, and select the lowest appropriate gear. The draw back in this is if you happen to dangle a wheel of the ground (such as going down a rocky slope), when the tranny "lets go" all of a sudden and you lurch forward until the wheel is back on the ground.

My best recommendation is to ditch the Goodyear HP Wrangler piece of crap tires, and get something much more appropriate for your driving conditions.
