Hi all, just traded for a 99 D1. Completely new to LR and have a simple question about the differential lock selector.

If i'm following the manual correctly, it should be in (H) for normal road driving (L) for starting a tow, backing up a trailer or in sticky off-road situations and (N) for being towed?

What else do I need to know? Right now the selector is to the right and all the way down (H). Is this good for every day driving or should it be in a different position?

Thanks!

Where you have it is perfect for everyday driving... L is more for off roading then anything. Also if you can move it to the Left side (i.e. diff lock) it would be for snow covered roads or off roading. But unless it has been used often it probably is stuck and will need to be fixed.

That's what i'm afraid of after some research. Will try to shift it later today, hopefully all is smooth. Thanks for the quick response!

Thanks. It's definitely stuck, will have to get into this next month probably. First thing is the basics... oil, plugs, wires, battery.

also noticed a "winding" sound when i'm accelerating an decelerating. Previous owner had a bass system installed, so i'm thinking Alternator?

Anyway, got all of the proper fluids and a decent oil and gas in now, so she's running much better right away. Glad I didn't pay for this thing (equal trade), but I think with a bit of TLC she's gonna be alright!
