The LR3 replaced a 2006 VW Jetta TDI. We moved back home to CO from TX and needed something a little better in the snow. I miss that TDI each time we pull up to the pump!

Now we're considering buying a commuter car for my wife's 56 mile commute to save on fuel. We had an '01 Mazda for that reason in TX and sold it for what I bought it for, but after I put in a new clutch, timing belt and a tune-up. Wishing we would have kept it now.

While I did get to drive that AM V8, unfortunately it was not my car. Here is the 'real' list:

1985 Toyota Pickup (8" lift, Buick V6 3.8L conversion, Edlebrock intake, Holly 4 bbl, dual exhaust, etc)
1987 Isuzu Trooper II
1987 Chevy Corvette Z52
1990 Isuzu Amigo XS
1991 Toyota 4Runner SR5
1995 BMW 325is - Wifey flipped this one and totalled it :(
1997 Toyota 4Runner SR5
2000 BMW 328Ci
2005 Land Rover LR3 HSE
2006 BMW 330i
2006 MINI Cooper S

I don't feel so bad about my affordable fun car fetish....

73 Olds Omega
76 Mustang II (laughable in retrospect but it was indestructable)
79 GMC Suburban...7.4L- got 5 gallons to the mile...but was faster than my friend's pony cars
88 Dodge Ram50-Slammed to the pavement-3 inches of ground clearance
80something dodge aspen wagon...the best car $150 could get!
92 Nissan pickup
89 Jeep Wrangler.....soft top, no locks no AC-4.2L 5speed pure love!
88 Mazda RX-7 :) Springfield IL to St Louis MO in 50 mins (90 miles of I55 in Southern IL never went by so fast as it did that day)...and other sordid adventures
95 Nissan Pickup-12 speakers, 1800 Watts RMS-explains the selective hearing loss when the wife is calling my name :stupid:
98 Jeep Wrangler Sahara-4" lift, the perfect vehicle for all seasons!
02 Subie WRX Just fast-great winter car! Ran up 38K in first year had to dump it
98 dodge Neon..........................for the girl friend...I confess I bought a Neon but it was the 2.0 150hp DOHC version.....she never appreicated that car!!! :bootyshak
2003 Golf TDI-50mpg
2004 Nissan Xterra-She got the Golf TDI and a wedding ring
2005 Saab 92X-missed the WRX, needed more speed, and they discounted it 12K on the showroom floor-the only good thing about GM in the past 2 decades
2006 Mini Cooper-wife
2008 LR3 MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE
2010 Mini John Cooper Works-her daily driver-my occassional autocross toy

Damn... I've wasted a lot of money on new cars since I was 16

Ranch/surf/family trucks before the 06 LR3 SE:
  • 2003 Lexus GX (Good truck, but scant leg room and really bad suspension)
  • 2003 Mercedes ML 350 (Stiffer suspension than my Suby STI, god awful truck with hideous build quality, lasted 6 months)
  • 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 LTD with Quadradrive andUpcountry suspension (Absolutely fabulous truck with great offroad traction, poor ground clearance and the best steel suspension I have ever experienced on and offroad. Dealers were confirmed liers, scoundrels, and cheats.)

91 Pathfinder, 97 Trooper, 98 Jeep, 98 Discovery, 2005 Pathfinder and now 2006 LR3 HSE. The Pathfinder was nice, but we missed the Rover.

'76 Mercury Monarch (145K - died of sludge and leaking rings because the previous owner never changed the oil)
'79 Chevy Caprice (96K miles - died of a soft cam from the factory)
'77 Dodge Colt (150K miles - died of leaking rings and valve guides)
'82 Toyota Celica 1 (250K when I sold it in '00 - still running in North Dakota, I believe)
'82 Toyota Celica 2 (bought for a parts car but ran fine for another 100K on its own)
'90 Subaru Legacy (sold at 150K)
'89 Honda Accord (sold at 150K)
'98 Honda CR-V (sold with 10K - hated it)
'99 Isuzu Rodeo (still own - with 186K)
'04 Land Rover Discovery (sold with 49K - great truck)
'05 Mini Cooper (still own - with 63K)
'07 LR3 (still own - with 33K)
