Pilot Light / Front Light Assembly

I brought in my 2005 LR3 for 60k miles service. Dealer called that pilot light in front light assembly had to be replaced. Dealer called again that bulb was stuck and proposed an entire new front light assembly (> $1k). Upon my examination, I found that the bulb had somehow melted the surrounding plastic and was now glued within the housing (I am referring to the bulb illuminating the orange side light). As far as I am concerned, too much heat was generated by the bulb, and I am suspecting a bulb with too much wattage. Did LR take a wrong bulb from the parts bin during assembly ? Did anybody see this before ?
