Range Rover L494 Hybrid DC to DC Converter

Hi can any one help, my RR needed a new DC to DC Converter and the are out of stock in the UK until at least July. I bought a secondhand one from Norway and my mechanic has said that it will not work because only a new one can be fitted as it needs to be coded to the vehicle chassis number!
Can any one advise if this correct or if there is a workaround?
