I have just taken delivery of my Rover Specialties Rock Sliders and I 'remember' reading somewhere of comments being made about a slight increase in road noise after they are fitted due to the amplification of noise by the slider.

I was then thinking would it be work putting some of the sound deadening mat on the top side of the large plate area of the slider to reduce this noise. My question is

a) Do you think this will make any difference

b) What type of mat would you go for? the asphalt stuff of the newer car audio rubberized stuff?

c) Does anybody who already has these installed get any squeaking from the sliders against the body/frame?

I don't get any squeaking....I get some dull, heavy-bass vibrations and I get a louder compressor noise.

Frankly, I LIKE both noises!

The compressor noise is noticable, but not at all bothersome. For me, the vibration is on acceleration, hardly any difference otherwise when cruising.

If you bought these, I certainly hope you are going to USE them for what they are intended for. Which means - WGAF about the noise. Sheesh...

And furthermore you cannot put sound deadening material in a place where it will come in contact with severe amounts of moisture. Meaning - mud, puddles, rain, creeks, etc. And, everytime you get mud packed in there you have to hose it out. Sounds like you wasted $1400+ on cool looking black side-step bars.

And no - no additional road noise on mine. The only noise I hear (which is a little louder) is the suspension's air compressor because it no longer has any padding around it.
If you guys are getting any vibration - check the torque on your bolts. I got nada. Not a pop, groan, moan, "heavy-bass", nothing...solid as a rock.

Cheers.

Let me be more clear...the vibration I hear is not something new or unnatural. It is the normal "sound signature" of the LR3, if you will, but deepened by the natural vibrations through the slider, like strings on a guitar vibrating through the wooden frame.

Mr. Biggs, it could be that if you didn't listen for the change in sound from Day 1 of slider installation, then you've missed it and will never notice it. Or...maybe you been listening to your iPOD cranked up TOO MUCH and now your hearing is shot!

Anyhow...I agree with earlier WGAF sentiment.

Thanks for the replies, it never hurts to ask.

Oh and as for the moisture issue I didn't realize rubber and asphalt absorb excessive amounts of moisture, you learn something new everyday................ ;-)

LOL - never heard such a thing from my rig. Just the resonant rumble of the V8.
