Hey guys, I'm doing some exploring this weekend on a trail run from Silverwood Lake up toward Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead via jeep trails. I've never done this run, so it should be fun.

There is supposed to be some rain Friday and Saturday, so the trail should be in good shape and not as dusty on Sunday. We might even get a bit of mud if we are lucky!

Tentative plan is to meet at Pilot Rock Road off the 138 near Silverwood Lake at aroudn 10 AM.

Here is a rough map not quite of the area, but you's see where we are talkign about: http://www.nextstepdesigns.com/images/LR3/cleghorn/Cleghorn_Map.gif

Any takers?

Here is a PDF I made from Charles Well's book;
www.nextstepdesigns.com/images/LR3/pilotrock_trailmap.pdf

Let's meet at GPS point #4, off the 173 (North east side of Siverwood lake)

I'm thinking 10 AM, but perhaps 11:00 AM would just as good (I'm always late)

Got three possibly 4 trucks so far, any others?

Regards,

There should be some on this thread here fairly soon:

Elliot took lots of photos (I think he said about 150), I got a couple, but didn't really work the camera like I normally do, I was just out enjoying the day.

My write up is brief:

Wow, today did not go quite as I had planned, but I had a lot of fun and got to meet new people.

We started with 7 trucks. We were dutifully warned that no one would make it through 2N17X without lockers, so of the 5 of us that went on 17X, 4 of us were unlocked :) - Jim Biram and his LR3 with the HD package being the only one locked.

Joe Nosal, myself, Elliot (nice Classic dude!), and Mark Wood in a D90 all ran the trail unlocked, though I do have traction control and that helps a lot.

Everything proved to be very doable. There are some neat parts of the trail. The off camber tree tunnel after the 3 way hill climb is probably my favorite. That was just plain fun. Mark had some difficulty climbing the 3 way hill, and Joe blew a bead trying to pull him out, so that slowed us down considerably, but other than that, it was uneventful and fun. I'd do it again at the next opportunity.

How about those LR3's, eh? Man was it fun to watch Jim just walk up every obstacle like it was nothing. Too easy, that's what it was I guess. I enjoyed watching Jim's shiny LR3 tow Mark's burly D90 up the hill :)

Thanks all for the good day,

Cheers,

Nathan Woods
