did you go with a new engine? did you get quoted for the cost of an engine rebuild?
It was a new engine. No quote for a rebuilt.

When I did the leak down test, air was leaking past the rings and into the crankcase.
With the engine running, you can remove the oil filler cap and check for excessive blow by.

What did the brand new engine cost you? I really don’t want to get rid of the car.

just realized i never updated this thread. the vacuum pump was replaced and no more smoke so far, compression and leak down tests both came back with no issues.

my tech thinks the broken vacuum pump was preventing the oil level monitor to read correctly, ie it never showed that the oil was very low, does that make sense?

Glad you got it sorted out.

Nope, makes no sense to me. The level sensor is an ultrasonic device, IIRC, submersed in the sump.

Did the electronic "dipstick" in the instrument cluster not show the oil level was low? Or was there simply no warning light / warning message about low oil, unless you thought to check the level via the cluster?

I guess but I have a question: Where did the 6 quarts go? Go pour 6 quarts of oil on the floor, that is a **** ton of oil.
