    Opinions on New Engine

My wife has a 1996 Disco with 160,000 miles on it. It's really a nice truck, in great physical condition, no rust or major scratches. And.. it's a Manual Transmission, which we love. I've been having some possible head gasket issues with it (oil in the coolant - no coolant in the oil - but...

What is the heaviest thing you have towed with your Disco?

420 pounds seems heavy for a 3480 pound trailer. typically tounge weight should be 10% of trailer weight - or almost perfect for your disco. The weight of the trailer should not be a problem at all, but that tounge weight is VERY heavy.

Insufficient Coolant Temperature For Closed Loop Fuel Control

I suppose I should post some more information. Didn't really think of it. This happens only seconds after start up - so there is no way the engine could warm up that fast - and the engine does get plenty warm - I actually worry it might over heat, but it hasnt yet. I also have a flickering...

Insufficient Coolant Temperature For Closed Loop Fuel Control

Hey guys... I'm getting this code on my Disco I 1996: "Insufficient Coolant Temperature For Closed Loop Fuel Control" This is couples with slightly rough idling, but I'm not sure if they are related. Any ideas?

    96' dico overheating

Tom.. Where in CT are you? I fear my 96 also needs a head gasket.. although I'm not yet at the stage of over heating, I do have oil in the radiator (no coolant in the oil though). $770 sounds like a great price for a head gasket job. I'm in East Hampton, CT (near Middletown on the east side of...

Disco I - How do I fill the radiator?

I just had to replace a bad heater core hose. Of course I lost most of the fluid in the process. How do I go about filling this thing up and knowing what the right level is? I've never had a vehicle without a normal radiator cap so I can just look inside of it to see how much is in there.

    cruise control - not working

    Oil in Antifreeze

the only other way I can think of that oil could get in the antifreeze is maybe some dumbass just poured oil in there. I cant think of any other possible way for the oil to end up in there, if its not coming from the head or the radiator.

    Oil in Antifreeze

So, the disco is at the dealer. They are trying to determine what happened. You may have read my last post, where I found a big puddle of oil and antifreeze under it. Well, they did extensive testing, and found that it was NOT the head, or head gasket, or anything like that. Good. They...

Help! Oil on the ground, lots of it.

Sadly, it doesnt seem to be that simple. I'm hoping it's as simple as maybe the oil pump or.. I'm just hoping we didnt damage the head or head gasket.

Help! Oil on the ground, lots of it.

'96 Disco 1, 5 sp manual. (United States) My wife called and said there was a big puddle on the ground under the rover. I drove down to check it out, and there was a huge puddle of oil under the vehicle. I started the engine quickly, and then shut it off, and I could see oil dripping from the...

What is the heaviest thing you have towed with your Disco?

I tow a 3500 pound boat all summer long. I hardly even feel it. The trailer does not have brakes. The only minor issues I have is going up some very long, steep hills near me. I usually have to drop to 3rd gear and chug up the hill at 35-40mph. Of course, I'm in a manual transmission model...

    Power Steering HIGH pressure hose.

So I replaced the low pressure hoses on the power steering system, which DID stop the leaking for a few weeks, but I now have a leak on the High pressure side - The hose that goes from the pump to the box. My question is - Is this something I can handle replacing? Keep in mind I just have...

Check This previous thread... http://www.landroverworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2133 Mine did that and I was able to clean up the IAC with some simple electric parts cleaner, and it started right up.

What happens if the brake light switch goes bad? I don't understand why you couldn't just drive?

    Newbie Saying Hi...

along the lines of the ABS light : you should know that it is SUPPOSED to stay on until you drive forward at at least mph, so it can have a little self test. When we were buying ours I thought for sure there was a problem, but it is indeed by design.

    new engine

If I may be so bold to ask... How much is this costing you? Are you getting it done at your local mechanic or having Land Rover do it? I've got a '96 with a 5 speed, and I love the thing, so the plans are to NOT replace it and replace the motor when the time comes.. so just planning ahead ;)

    Let's talk about Power Steering...

so are both the hoses coming from the reservoir low pressure?
  22. H

    Let's talk about Power Steering...

ok. In looking at it, it seems that the leak is coming from one of the two hoses that come from the little round reservoir near the front of the engine compartment. I'd like to change both of those hoses. I'm not sure how the clamps work though. On at least one of them, there is like a metal...

Snow Tires/ All season Tires for Disco I

I'm getting my revo's installed tommorow. Doing my online research, they were the best I could find. I love the BFG AT's, I've run them on all my Jeeps in the past, and they really are a great tire - but they are only speed rated to 99mph. Not saying that I often go that fast in the rover but...

    Some General Questions

buy yourself an OBDII code reader. they can be had for about $100 at any auto parts store or online even. You simply plug it in to the port underneath the steering wheel, down near your feet - and it tells you what the code is. sometimes they are just "nothing" codes that can just be cleared...
