Very often when off roading we use left foot braking, while keeping the right on the gas. For example, going over a large boulder this technique is frequently used. But not heel-toe, no.

You need to buy narrower shoes

Never had this issue in our LR3, just in the MINI which has 3 pedals within a much tighter footwell. Believe it or not, shoe selection for driving makes a difference in that car with respect to pedal placement and unintended pedal contact.
