Hi all,
I recently joined the forum after picking up a new LR4 HSE this winter. Love all the great info I'm finding on this site, so thought I'd throw a couple questions out there.

So I just installed a hitch mount bike rack (Kuat NV) and have a couple quick questions.

1) Is there any way to turn off the rear parking sensor or at least turn down the volume? With the rack installed, now whenever I backup I have to listen to the steady warning tone of impending doom. I went through the manual and found there is a parking sensor button next to the harards button. I however do not seem to have the option that gets me this button. I also read the sensor will be deactivated when trailer cables are hooked up. As I only have the receiver, I do not have any cables to connect.

2) For those of you with the quick release tow hitch installed, should there be a little side to side movement with this hitch? The rack is rock solid in the receiver, but there is some movement with the hitch itself. Wanted to see if this is normal or if I should take apart and reinstall (dealer originally installed).

Thanks for the help!

Hello and welcome to the forums,

My hitch has very little if any play when properly seated. I'm not sure I could rock it 1/16" side to side even when I have the rack on for leverage. I would double check that it is seated all the way into the receptical.

Most racks, drawbars or other accesories don't fit snug in a standard 2" reciever. This is where I see the most side to side movement. They offer anti rattle devices that will firm up the connection. I have one at home I use on our cargo platform for vacations. I can take a picture of it when I leave the offtice at lunch if you would like. Otherwise I will figure out which one it is and post a link. It's extreemly stout and keeps it from rocking back and fourth.

I don't see any way to silence the backup sensors if that button is missing from the dash. Mine turns on everytime I have my bike rack attached, even if there is no bike on the back. I have the tow electronics, but unless I pull the access door and plug something into the 4/7 pin receptical, the sensors go off. That is how it is designed to work.

Enjoy your truck,

Rob

I agree with Rob, there is no play at all with my hitch receiver. It is rock solid. There isn't anything to take apart if you want to reseat it...just use your key to unlock, turn the latch, slide it out and then put it back in and release the latch again. It's akward and heavy, but should go right in.

I do, however, get slight side to side movement from the bike rack hitch inside the receiver. That is what Rob is suggesting a solution for.

Good luck and enjoy your LR4!

Welcome to the forum,
There should be a button in the center console that would shut off the parking sensors temporarily. I have it in my 2010 HSE. Maybe the 2011 doesn't have it. There is no movement at all with my tow hitch receiver. I do not know of a way to lower the volume of the sensor beep. You may want to check with the dealer on that one. I wish I could make mine louder in the back. Sometimes with the radio on I can barely hear it.

Thanks all for the quick responses!

I'll just try re-seating the hitch. The bike rack itself actually has a built in anti-rattle device that tightens the fit once in the receiver, which is one of the reasons I selected it. Seems to work pretty well so once I fix the hitch, I should be good to go.

As for the parking sensor, the spot where the button is located (at least as shown in the manual), is definitely covered up so I wonder which option would be required on the '11 to get this shutoff feature installed? Maybe a full towing package with all cables (if there is one)?? Oh well, guess I'll just have to turn up the stereo

I have an early '11 LR4 and the button to turn on or off the parking sensors is located on the right side of the center stack below the NAV screen. I use if all the time when pulling into the garage or when I wasn't to turn of the sensors.

Still-one,

I am curious what your build date is and if you have the rear camera? My 2011 built 1/11 only has the rear camera and rear sensors, no front sensor and the button to turn off sensors is blank. Just curious to know when they made the change over to rear camera only.

Thanks!

we are working on an algorithm that will train the back up sensor to the presence of the bike or bike rack, so that the rear parking sensor will only go off if it sees something other than the bike rack......

thanks !!
