Isn't that diesel V6 pretty notorious? Not legal in the U.S. anyway...otherwise I might still be brewing biodiesel.

It's notorious for having a bad crankshaft, which wasn't the problem here.

Christian (the guy on LRTime) did a masterclass in the problems with the TDV6 on a prior video on that channel.


Long story short, his theory is that JLR wanted to use this engine in so many different vehicle models that they directed the engineers to make it as small as possible, which shrank the length of the crankshaft and led to insufficient bearing surface area.

He also famously calls the OE spec engine oil "5W-Dumba$$" and recommends 5w-40 (I think?) instead.
