Quick stupid question. Was there a change in the V8 engine from 05-09? Mechanic said in 05 it was BMW then Ford after that. If true, I sure didn't know it....if false, I don't think I trust this mechanic!

No sh*t right? I was 99 1/2% sure. Thanks.
Wonder if he was right about needing timing chain tensioners, since he doesn't even know what engine he's looking at, LOL

Not true for the LR3. It was true for the full size Range Rover at least regarding the BMW engine on 05.

LR3 always had the Jaguar origin V-8 or the Ford origin V-6 as far as gas engines go. Not sure of the origin of the TDV6 but I would guess Jaguar.

Well then, what a disappointing thread...I was hoping to read about Roverman putting in a different ENGINE ;)

Range Rover 2003-2005 has a BMW V8. Not a bad engine in itself. 2006 forward was a new Jag sourced engine. All LR3 V8 are the Jaguar engine.

I don't need a new engine, it was just a conversation about the timing chain changes. Needless to say, I stopped listening after finding out he didn't know what engine he was talking about. Sorry to disappoint!
