why not go diesel?
Assuming this is directed at my comments....
I have done Diesel twice, basically at the same time.... When my LR4 was Lemon'd the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Diesel was what I replaced it with. Seemed like a somewhat comparable vehicle as it was similar in dimension as the RRS with the Air Suspension similar to the LR4. Plus we have a second home 435 miles away that we go to frequently so the range was the perk that I was happy about. At the same time I had a job change and picked up one of the now infamous TDI VW Golfs that I would put 150 miles a day on to and from work.
While the Golf was nice as it didn't need DEF the JGC needed DEF and while it doesn't seem like it would be a pain to deal with it kind of is over time. That being said my largest complaint was more around finding good diesel stations. What I mean by that is, at least in my area and the routes that I frequent, diesel pumps are 10x more dirty and nasty than the gas counterpart. That meaning that diesel doesn't evaporate like gas does so the pumps and handles seem to build up with gunk and diesel residue which means it gets over your hands and clothes and interior. At least in my area the pumps were so bad that I started buying boxes of latex gloves to put in the back of the cars for when I would fill up. So much an issue as the other half refused to fill up the JGC because "ew disgusting"....
Other issue with diesel is the option typically costs more. Depending upon where you are with gas prices it would take significant mileage and time to be able to offset the upfront costs. Plus, you have all the EGR and DEF systems that then have to be maintained along with the turbo system and etc, etc, etc....
Based on my experience I find it very difficult to say that Diesel mpg outweighs any of the other crap and potential long term maintenance that diesel brings with it...
Plus, if we have to take a couple ticks off the RRS diesel numbers the numbers really are not very good still. You can go get an X5 BMW Diesel and do almost 30 vs what could be 23-24 in the D5.... I know, apples and oranges but still.... My Q7 can do 26 easy all day long without blinking... I can get 21 in mixed city driving as long as you are not stoplight racing....
