OK i have the factory trailer hitch, but no electrical hookups

I have a D1, so YMMV, but:

D1s have the wiring probe behind the right rear fender panel (between the wheelwell and the tail lights). It's seven-wire, so you need an adapter to use a U-Haul.

Yes, there are wire kits that are required to so you can tow. You can get them at the dealers, or placed like Atlantic British. I got one from a really good trailer shop that was familiar with Rovers.
