I know this was about a year old but this thread helped me change my front axels on 2008 RRSSC. I used slide Hammer and a chain and it worked nicely without having to pull apart CV joint (see pic).
Also the CV joint started to go out between west Yellowstone and big sky in the middle of February. Anyone who’s been on that road knows it’s the middle of nowhere. So after some checking and being sure it was a bad CV I had to drive it to civilization. During that time the bad CV caused the wheel bearing to go out. It seems CV axels and wheel bearings are good to replace at the same time.
