Good to hear they are taking care of it, and that the updated guides looked good after 40k miles.

FYI, the guides were actually updated in the '13 model year (actually, really late in the '12 model year), so the last of the V8's got the updated guides, too.

Good to know, and thanks.

Did we ever get to the bottom of figuring out how to determine which VIN ranges were included in the new guides? I thought there was still doubt on this front.

Mine is not that loud, but cold starts make a similar, but far more subtle noise. After i changed the oil, including using the BG oil treatment first , it mostly went away. It does sound like auto adjust hydraulic lifters with low oil pressure. So if quite cold andoil dirty, it could be the issue. Have you changed the oil at the 18k mile JLR interval, and using the recommend synth oil? I use the recommended oil, but like many in the forum, i change at +/- 10k miles, or less, if lots of towinggm

Missed this reply earlier. I actually went in a couple of months earlier for the same noise and got the "could not reproduce" response. I did an oil change and the sound attenuated but didn't go away. So yes, oil change can help the noise but not the underlying issue. Without my warranty expiring I probably would have let it go a while longer, but then it got really loud and recorded the video above to document it. That helped get it covered under warranty, but the original complaint is what they really used as justification to do "goodwill" coverage.

There was a bulletin posted on a Range Rover forum somewhere. I think I downloaded it, but it's on my computer at home.
