Hi everybody, I am new here and just like an opinion and share my research results
I got 1985 Landrover County registered new 1987 in NZ and have built it into a camper during the last couple years, will post some photos later
Now, I know that the former owner (good mate) dropped an army 3.5 L V8 in it, there is no engine number on it so I have to go with its a fairly low compression rate motor
I have done tonnes (years) of research and investigations on how to make this run better and bit more efficient without rebuilding the whole thing
So I have now got standard Strombergs (very well tuned) carbs with K/N airfilters
10 mm HT ignition leads
Torque Master plugs
Ignitor 2 magnetic electronic ignition
60.000 HT E core coil
And man, I got it going!!!
Feels like I gained 50-60 ponies
This is a NZD 400-450 bucks upgrade, so not super expensive either
It is a big heavy truck as you know (with all camping gear its over 2.4 tonnes)
And I do run 35´s on it (I know I know, but Im not a puritan)
It still 4 speed LT95 so bit clonky
But now, in third gear I push 60 up to 75 before 4th gear and feel it like it got more
And right there is where the power sits (sorry no tachometer)
Top speed will be way over 120 but have not dare that yet...
Now to the problem:
Since this remarkable upgrade, it has started a ticking sound
I can move it around the rev range by changing the timing and I can even make it go away but losing power on that much retarding
And it also have started pushing oil out the dipstick... NOT good...
I think it always have done this since I have owned it (always had that burned oil smell), but now when it can rev so much higher the problem gotten worse...
So whats you money on mates?
1. busted can ring?
2. worn pushrods/rockers?
3. blocked release oil pressure valve?
4. or just blocked up in general?
5. other secret trick...?
Grateful for any input and if anybody out there needs some more power out his 3.5 Liter Rover V8
THIS IS THE RECIPE!!!
Cheers
/Rik.
