To black the grill or not to black the grill?

Black looks good. You could always invest in a replacement grill that's black giving you the option to switch back at some point if you decide you didn't like it. Maybe find one at a junk yard or someplace.
A matt finish is probably a good idea if you expect to get it scratched and banged up at all.

I dunno, for some reason it works on the disco II...Maybe bc the area around the headlights is black???

black on the grill looks good, because it ties in with the black on the roof rack. Instead of using glossy jet black you might want to get a slightly matte black with a little bit of a greyish color to match the unpainted bumper ends.

Finally it would probably look cool with a flat black vinyl strip on the hood (I think the G4 trucks had this), to keep down the glare from the lights on the roof rack.

Just my 2 cents.
