Like I stated in my original post some off topic discussion is ok. However it is my opinion that it is getting out of hand. All I ask is that people think for a second about what off topic post they are starting. Washing your rig and telling the world doesn't fit here IMO! Judging by some of the responses I am not the only one that feels this way. I am not a moderator nor do I have any say in this board, however the owner of this forum originally set it up this way for reason. This is a free country and if this forum isn't setup the way you like it you can create your own or I can leave. I intend to say nothing further on this topic

my thoughts

So basically to the average bear, anything LR3 related goes in here, irrespective of what its called (technical or not). I fall in that category (for example my wheel color post) But it might be a grt idea to create 2 forums for each model.. ie LR3 gets technical and general. Disco2 gets technical and general, etc.

This man speaks the truth, best of both worlds.

I am definitely with RYAN on this one.General discussion is one thing, but opening meaningless threads for no solid reason makes no sense and in some cases is an insult for serious Land Rover users. This is what this forum was founded for , i believe , to share experiences from appropriate LR usage and problems related to it.Some may believe , like our concrete driveway warrior , that washing an LR3 or any other car, for that matter ,every two days , is a great news to share is WRONG! Dude ,did you ever hear of water conservation programs? Head out , get dirty ,enjoy your precious toy and stop typing meaningless answers or starting polls, maybe you learn something valuable from this forum .For someone , that calls new rubber mats a MOD , that a serious stretch,I know and ranting about sprinkler water marks so seriously is simply an insult to entire LR community, but
you will learn,you will..
I thought, I was the only one having problems with latest new posts on this forum, but thankfully ,I was wrong.I actually stopped browsing around for some time, since there was no valuable discussion on it as it always was, but there is hope....Another thing is your stupid poll, regarding SE and HSE....,maybe your intentions were pure as water in Gulf of Mexico , but it turned out to be a thread , that released some evil inside them, like msBIgs,for example, who thinks , that he is smarter, than us,owners with HSe version, simply ,cus he resisted a purchase of better equipped car, actually calling us shmmoss. This is unacceptable by my standards.LR community is not about that.Who cares if someone drives SE or HSE for that matter,is what they DO in their cars and what they experienced, while traveling and OFF ROAD.That is how differences are measured on this forum, not the other way around...:stupid:Whoever calls himself mister Big,has issues anyway, but that is not my concern at this time .My point is ,Don't insult your fellow forum members,by calling them names, since some day you may need they help and get none for being arrogant.I would write a lot more, but have no time ,since i have to go back to real world and wash my car from a Maine trip, ..wash for the first time ...this year,go figure...Peace out and get real fellas, get real...

Well, seeing that I'm not a good fit to this forum, I'll leave for good.

Thanks.

No one's asking you to leave CMG. Just the fact of seeing you logged in tells me that you don't want to go. By design, internet forums are technical based. This is an incredible source to gather information. I think the general vibe of the posters is to keep things more professional. We like to see technical questions, trip reports and value the sharing of solid information.

Thorgal,

Respectfully, I think your comments are inappropriate and that CMG is due an apology from you, sir. I agree with the desire to keep the forum technical for the reasons already stated by others. And...as evidenced by his deference, it was graciously understood by CMG. There is no reason to beat him into the ground.

Further, the notion that there is somehow a Land Rover community who uniformly shares your "sensibilities" for what's valuable and what isn't, well...let's just say that as a Land Rover owner for several years now, that has fortunately not been my experience. I rather enjoy having many personalities and points of view around. CMG is new to the Rover world. I'd rather that he think of his fellow owners as supportive and coaching rather than territorial and intolerant. The point had been made to him at the start of the thread, he understood it, no need to pile on.

Best,
Dave

I think both sides have good points. There is a desire to keep this forum free of worthless blather...but at the same time it's a free forum and sometimes goofy threads can be fun too. I liked the idea of having a separate area to post trivial (non-technical) threads.

Agree with Houm. There is enough space here for all discussions, technical or other.

But also agree that some of the "What did you do today..." posts can be a bit too much. Daily routines like driving to the dentist, washing the car, putting gas in the tank - we all do this. Is it necessary to post about these routine daily tasks? Probably not.
