2 weeks ago I gave up on troubleshooting myself and had dealer take care of the sunroof drains. Car had significant amount of water in driver's and passenger side floor and dealer clipped, cleared and tested all 4 drain tubes and things looked good.
A couple days ago it rained, and I wanted to make sure everything was fixed so I pulled up the trim and carpet and lo and behold, the padding is damp again.

My A/C cabin filter behind the glovebox is dry, so I don't think the issue is with the cowl that is described in other threads.

Now for another symptom: I was using one of those drive-through auto car washes as I was in a hurry to get a client and while going under the blower, I felt air coming through the closed sunroof and got sprayed with some water as well.

Would this mean I should be looking at the actual sunroof seal as the culprit? Any other ideas/diagnoses out there?

I have actually heard about a TSB requiring some vague "modification" to the sunroof rails. I'm not sure what it entails or what the TSB number is. Anyone else?

Some places to check in addition to your sunroof are under the A-piller trim. The top most hole is known for leaking. There is a tsb that includes removal of the locator tab and a piece of tape to cover that hole. Also if the cowl is warped away from the windshield 8-12" away from the passenger side A-piller trim, it is likely leaking...

Ryan-if cowl is warped, won't the water dampen the filter? My filter is completely dry so I am ruling out that problem unless someone here knows that the cowl problem might not necessarily show itself by wetting the filter.

Houm, would be interested if you find out anything else about the modification of the rails...

I only mentioned the cowl because you mentioned a previous trip through the car wash. If you had driven around with the fan on the airflow would dry out the filter. The water coming through the sunroof is a concern and I would start there. I just skimmed through the TSBs regarding the sunroof and was unable to find anything other then one for the replacement of the the Drain tubes. (Procedural change that haden't been implemented with the Workshop manual yet).

I wonder if my seal for the sunroof is bad. Also, I remember reading someone's post that their alignment on the closed sunroof was off ever so slightly and this was causing their water ingress.

If I have only run the heat since having the car, it can't be the A/C condensor drain lines, can it?

It would be the evaporator drain lines. (Condensor is mounted in front of the radiator) Yes it is still possible as the HVAC will run the cooling for the purposes of Dehumidification. My sunroof sits slightly lower on the passenger side. I think that if the drain lines are clear and you are parked on flat ground the sunroof shouldn't leak at all even if the seal is bad or slightly out of alignment (That's why there are drains in the first place!)

I have no other info...sorry. I had experienced one event one time where my passenger floorboard was wet. I honestly don't know if it was from sunroof leaking or just people getting in and out with really wet shoes or leaving the door open or whatever...

...I dried it out, it hadn't happened again. ...but then at the dealer I asked them to look at my drain tubes. They said something about needing to "modify" the rails according to some TSB....I THINK it was a TSB. It could just be something that THEY do at LR Seattle. Anyhow, I trust them so I just let them do it for $120. I don't even know what they did!

I went back tonight and revisited the idea that maybe it was the windshield cowl leaking. I dropped the glovebox, removed the air filter, and had wife pour water down windshield. Noticed water dripping down inside the unit pictured on the attached picture.

Obviously, this isn't right. So my question to those with experience: would this cause both the passenger and driver's side carpet to get wet, or would this be limited to passenger side only? I ask b/c both sides have wet carpet.

The vent intake is only on the passenger side so I would say passenger side only would be affected from water down the winshield.
