First forum post so please excuse if I ask something thats been covered before. I currently own a 2017 Jeep GC Trail hawk with the 5.7 V8 and do like the truck. I tow a 7000lb boat about twice a year a few hundred miles so the capacity of the Discovery is appealing to me. I'm nearing 40K miles on my JGC and the incentives on the 2018 Discovery 5's are pretty appealing. I'm seeing them on dealers lots as low as $54,000 or around $6K to 7K off sticker. My questions or comments from research.
  • The hitch receiver for the D5 looks like it sticks out quite a ways from the undercarriage on the oem setup that I found a pic of. Is there another way to get a hitch that isn't so "In your face"? Is the pic I copied from a dealers website the way this has to look permanently?
  • The D5's I'm looking at don't have the hitch already and the dealer is telling me that its going to be about $2000 when its installed thru them. Seems kind of high but I found one new vehicle online that had the "Tow Pack" for $1,399 on the window sticker. The hitch on the online configurator was like $695. Confusing?
  • Are there any special service requirements I need to know of on the supercharged gas engine?
  • I've owned diesel VW's and loved them. Does it make sense in this vehicle to go to the diesel if I generally keep it for 2 years or would the gas be sufficient? Any first hand experience with Gas vs diesel in real world fuel economy?
The rest I've been able to figure out from the helpful posts, Thank you

Actually went and looked at the vehicle and answered my own questions. Hitch doesn't look nearly as obtrusive in person. Ended up buying it. $9087 off Sticker (14.6%) I thought was a pretty decent discount on a 2018 SE. Pick it up tomorrow. Excited

There was a $3000 Rebate from Land Rover and the dealer discounted it another $6087. Very happy so far. Just getting to know all the systems. I'm really pleased with its towing ability. The vehicle is certainly more sure footed than my JGC and once up to highway speed the Supercharged engine seems to have a more stable power band than the 5.7 Hemi but slightly less low end power. I had an 8 spd transmission in both trucks but this one seems to shift smoother. Towed a 7000lb boat about 150 miles. Haven't been able to get a true picture on fuel economy yet. Would imagine it needs some break in before the economy starts to pick up. Does anyone really go the 1 year or 15,000 miles between services that the dealer recommends?

I just traded a 15 Yukon Denali for my Disco. I got the black on as well. I love it...Rides awesome and handles great too. The Denali pretty much rode hard like a truck and vibrated after every bump. And...it didn't have any higher tow rating than the Disco.
You will love the Disco...at least I do.

So I got to play with the 4X4 this weekend a bit. Mostly soft sand and dirt where they are doing site development for a housing community. Not many rocks in Fl. Anyway, I went thru this area previously in my Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Disco by comparison is every bit as composed as the JGC in the soft stuff. I intentionally tried to find the softest sand to get stuck in and the Disco surfed thru it easily. The 4X4 modes really raise the truck up a lot. I was pretty shocked how high when I got back to my driveway. I'd never switched it to the other driving modes before. I'm having a little trouble shifting back and forth from Drive to Reverse to Park at times. The knob seems to hang up momentarily. Not sure if I'm just not pressing the brake pedal hard enough or if I'm supposed to be pressing down on the knob before I try and turn it back to park from Drive?
Overall happy with the vehicle. Road manners are great, rides quiet and more refined than the JGC it replaced. Have about 1000 miles on it now. AVG fuel economy is now up to 14.4. I hope it goes a little further than that. Pics of full height vs entry/exit height.

just give it a second. all of it is electronic, not manual and there seems to be a slight delay. My LR4 does the same thing and just giving it a second allows for the electronic message to go thru
