Any good brake places in the Boulder, CO area?!

I need new brake pads (dummy light came on a bit ago). I need to take it in for a service and asked the dealership how much new brakes would be. I would really like to avoid spending $2500 if possible! Any one have a trusted place in the Boulder/Denver area? I'm in Longmont, but would be willing to drive a bit if it would mean saving a decent amount of money! I don't have the time to do it myself right now (getting ready to move to Steamboat Springs next month) and honestly, I'm a little uncomfortable with the thought of working on this beast myself, I only have experience with Fords! lol

On the same note, any recommendations on a good mechanic in the Steamboat Springs area?!

Two indy shops in the Denver area that get good reviews are JC British and Roadside Werx. There may be others as well.

I understand being busy and not having time to do it, but, just so you know, if you have experience working on any vehicle (and you have basic tools), you can do the brakes on an LR4. They are really simple.

In fact, the hardest part will probably be replacing the brake sensors.

That's actually really good to know! When we get settled in Steamboat Springs, I have a feeling I'll be getting more acquainted with the LR4. It's a long drive to any of the shops in Denver!

I've used LinDen Engineering in Golden. I think they have a new name. They did good work on my LR3 at great prices. It's a small owner/mechanic shop so turn-around time can be long if they have a lot of vehicles to work on at once.

If/when you get the time and interest, brakes are definitely a job worth tackling on your own. There's a great reference manual on the Internet, Bodsy's Brake Bible. It's for LR3 so I assume it applies to LR4.

You could also try Rob at Apex Auto in Lakewood. He is awesome and super affordable. He has taken care of our Rover and Volvos for years. But never our Toyota...one would think I would eventually learn....

Gunbarrel Import Motors (Niwot) charged me $915 for front pads and rotors after my warning light came on.

Uhh there are a few crux moments. You need a thin 15? 17mm wrench for the caliper pin bases and if replacing the rotors you need big sockets and a breaker bar depending if the previous jobber put the carrier bolts back in at the proper torque of 200+ ft/lbs. The backs of course mean dancing around the e parking brake and resetting that. A little more involved than a topside oil change lol.

I would consider those basic tools. I would also assume anyone who has experience working on cars as someone who's done a brake job before, and the brakes on an LR4 aren't any more complex as any other vehicle. In fact, they are quite simple. I've had some vehicles (Land Cruisers, for example) where replacing the brake rotor meant pulling the hub and repacking wheel bearings.
