The blind spot monitor on my recently acquired 2015 LR4 has appears to have failed back in 2020. I want to try and fix it. I suspect the sensor modules are defective.

The is a yellow dot in the driver's mirror and nothing displayed in the passenger side mirror.

I did some checking, and it appears the sensor part is: LR052073. Can someone confirm that?

I think the sensors are located in each corner, behind the rear bumper. Are there any instructions for removing the rear bumper cover?

Anything else I should be looking for?

P.S. My previous Land Rover was a 1987 Defender 90. No electronics! I replaced most of the suspension myself, replaced the turbo charged diesel engine with a 200TDI engine after rebuilding it. Great classic vehicle and easy to work on due to the simplicity.

Before you throw parts at it, have it diagnosed.
Yellow dot indicates which side is functioning.

So far what I discovered is that the passenger side mirror glass led's that are for the blind spot don't light up. I temporarily swapped the mirror glass from the driver's side, and it worked. I ordered a new glass for the passenger's side.

From the owner's manual its states that when you first start the truck the mirror should flash the warning led and then the orange dot will light up and stay on until you reach around 9 MPH. Mine stays on permanently. Should the orange dot be lit after you drive off?

I still have the dash error that Blind Spot is not available but no more errors on the GAP IID.

I read somewhere that you can turn Blind Spot Monitoring off/on. I didn't see anything on the screen menus to do that, nor did I find anything in the GAP IID manual. Is there a way to turn BSM off/on?

On my dash display, the option to turn off reverse traffic detection is not available. The text is dim. Also, the parking assist button on the console occasionally lights up then goes off immediately.

I get the errors : Blind Spot Monitor and Reverse Traffic Detection not operating. I get no error codes on the GAP IID tool or my Blue Devil OBD tool.

I did find a defective rear bumper sensor and I have replaced both corner BSM sensors behind the bumpers. One was bad because when I plug it in it throws a code.

I tried disconnecting all the rear bumper sensors and as expected, the GAP IID throws errors for all the detectors.

Is there any reset procedure required when changing these sensors?

No reset procedure for the park aid sensors.
With the ignition on. You should hear a faint clicking noise coming from each sensor.
Usually, a bad park aid sensor would disable the cameras. Not the blind spot monitors.

Just had the same problem om my LR4. Drivers side stopped working. Also intermittent window inop. Multiple "U" & "B"codes stored. Process of elimination, Diag'd as left door control module. Replaced it, fixed it. I have access to the JLR tools.

What JLR tools did you use? Seems odd that the Left door control module would affect this, but I do get similar error with the Icarsofttool. It shows SODR not fitted. My problem is is on the passenger side. On the driver’s side there are no errors but it also doesn’t work. The only other quirk is the passenger side mirror camera flashes when I activate it using the screen cameras display. The driver’s side mirror camera is stable.

Other symptom is the Park Assist is unavailable. I suspect it uses the BSM sensors as well. The error codes I get now are permanent and can’t be cleared. On the Icarsoft tool, it also has codes that the BSM modules are not calibrated, which from reading online appears to relate to a calibration process that has to be done when replacing BSM modules, but I can’t find how you calibrate these sensors.

Not meaning to hijack... but I'd say "good riddance" The flashing annoys me and I'm used to turning my head and leaning forwards to check those spots. Also, my mirrors are adjusted properly... no need to admire the sides of the vehicle when I'm driving.

I bought this LR4 because I like the style. I find the newer Land Rovers to be "overweight" with too much "junk in the trunk". I had a 1987 Defender. That's a minimalist vehicle but classic.

The other reason I bought it was that it was great mechanically and well maintained. But the electronic gizmo's were either failed or failing. I've modified software on a number of vehicles including Audis' and Jeep's. Once I got into trying to resolve the Blind Spot Monitor feature, I realized how these systems on the Land Rover resemble the old MG and Triumph era cars and their electrical nightmares.

The BSM modules are "hardcoded" to the vehicle. The VIN and serial number is coded in the factory and then sealed in a vault to prevent any hobbits from changing parts. Then there's the wonderful design of putting cameras in the front bumper. Rocks, water mud etc. of course destroy these cameras in short order. Then to add insult to injury, you have to remove the front bumper cover to replace the cameras. At the dealer this would rack up $$$ of repairs. I found cameras for $100 each and my labor is free :)

I like driving the LR4. It gives me a sense of royalty and explains why the British empire no longer exists. The wheels fell off. Every time I drive it, I expect something to break. To me Land Rover vehicles are a "work in process". The process means continual repairs. It's fun! One day when I'm done repairing it, i think I'll take it off road and abuse it to death. It will end it's life as it should, a bucket of bolts with no BSM, mirrors, cameras or oil pan!
