Hello, first time posting....

I purchased a 2012 LR4 from a dealer on the west coast a year and a half ago, I have relatively good luck in that it was lower milage and well kept up. While I have owned it I have had to tackle a few of the higher ticket repairs that come up around the 100K timeline and have done so willingly.

unknown to me at the time of purchase the car had some light hail damage to the roof including a nasty hit at the leading edge of the alpine roof. the car has shown no signs of leaks due to this so I have avoided replacement. Time weather and light off roading have produced cracks that spider web out from the original hit ( still no leaks)

I am getting to a stage where I am concerned about winter moisture getting in and causing it to splinter completely or break outing start getting interior water.

has anyone had this panel replaced ( OEM glass seems to be running a steep $2200 before any labor)

are their reputable alternatives?
Is it possible to acquire a used one off of another truck? (can they be removed intact?)

Thanks

Sorry to hear that. In my area I wouldn't trust anyone unless they have done it before and they will pretty much name their price. I love the glass and look out through it every night in the desert. There are 2-3 shooting stars a night.

I have a similar issue with my 2013. It has changed very little and has never leaked or fogged. If you feel the crack you could fill with a windshield crack repair kit or even have someone like Safelite evaluate for repair. Due to cost and complexity I would monitor for changes and leaks and leave it alone.

I have worried about glass roofs in general, particularly during a rollover. Yet I have heard of only one on a different type vehicle being shattered.
Since living in a area with hail events every year. What would I do in an emergency glass breakage.
I have considered a porous vinyl overlay for protection and it might stabilize your cracks. But, the vinyl and glass may expand at different rates due to temperature changes. It could make it worse.
I suspect that the vinyl might cost $300-$400 installed.
Since a replacement is $2200 and insurance may cover part of the cost. I would replace with new glass. If an emergency replacement is needed do the vinyl until a permanent solution can be found.

As far as being crushed, the LR3/LR4 are stout asf so in a roll you'll be fine if your belt is on.

What about a wrap that matches the body color? Or black even? You’d give up visibility, but I rarely have people in the back seats, so that wouldn’t be an issue for me.

Rollover!? How are you driving to increase the risk of a rollover? Maybe don't do that??
