Hi all. I'm looking at buying a used 06 LR3. I'm moving to Botswana with my job for 4 years. I have found a LR3 that meets the requirements for me and the family. I would like to purchase one with the rear diff locker, however, that seems to be a rare breed. With the exception of the full size spare, is there another way to tell if that is already installed on the vehicle. I have noted in the LCD display under 4X4 info two open locks, one on the center diff and one on the rear. Does that mean the rear diff will lock/ it has the heavy duty package? Or do all LR3's have the two locks displayed in the 4X4 info screen. Some non Land Rover dealers seem to be cluesless about this option..
Thanks for the help..

Unfortunately, the OffRoad Display (at least the one in our Nav) still shows a rear locker whether you have one or not. A full size spare is one way, but that could just be that someone added in a matching wheel/tire. I'm not sure if there is an external physical difference that you can see on the rear end of the car - I'm sure someone on here will know that though!

One way to tell is to crawl under an look, but it is not easy. A locking diff will have a motor and harness on top toward the rear of the unit while an open one will not. If you search this forum for "locker", there is a thread fairly recently called "retrofit rear end" that has a link to Ebay. The picture is showing the top of the unit and the motor. I am just not brighht enough at this hour to post links or pictures, maybe someone else can pop it up.
