The other problem on the lack of dipstick and electronic gauge is that you have no idea if you overfilled the oil; it doesn't go higher than full. Frothing the oil with the crank could **** the engine too. Again, a dipstick tells you about how much you went over.
Didn't take it that way at all! I have the truck at a 3rd party shop right now, but will call the dealership tomorrow to bring the issue up. Almost all maintenance done there. I did call them about this issue right before it happened (thought it was a timing chain), but ended up at the other...
I will add that the electronic gauge is totally useless for another reason. It goes from the very bottom gauge (empty) to full over about 1 quart of oil but only at the very top of the volume. Its not linear. In other words, at 7.5 quarts it will indicate low, and at 8.5 quarts it will...
It is really unacceptable if you ask me. Based on the diagram above, there is a low oil sensor. Based on this experience that is a non-functional part.... and actually even worse than not having it at all. It provides some sense of security that the engine has a check on this sort of thing...

For backgorund I am very diligent with car care and have tons of wrenching...
Just a follow-up on this from a couple years back. I had the dealer replace all the injectors and the problem was solved. No further issues. Bigger issue now to deal with and I'll post about that in separate thread.

All warranty and subsequent scheduled PM have been performed at Land Rover dealer. Power steering pump and rack done. Rear cross over pipe done. Scheduled 10k maintenance done at dealer.
There was a leak from the drivers...
I bought my LR4 new from Glenwood Springs and it was the last Landmark / HD package sold new in the US. I have i lifted on ID2 took with alpha wheels. All stock otherwise.
I keep my truck in the garage unless I am at work where it is outside a few days a week. Dry but hot here in central Texas. I've noticed some of the treads on the leather dash are breaking where there is a seam for the airbag. Anyone else have this issue?
