I just picked up a 2015 LR4 with 111500 miles on it. It has a pretty decent service record. Drove it from CO to AZ and what a smooth trip. No issues. I got home last Saturday. It slept outside Saturday but got moved into the shop on Sunday. Tuesday morning I noticed a little coolant puddle on the ground and had a low coolant light on. Filled it up and drove to work. At lunch, went and looked under the truck, no puddle and the coolant was where it was after I filled it. Started it and the coolant light was still off. About an hour later, I showed the truck to a friend and then noticed a small coolant puddle again. No Low coolant light at this time. Yesterday (Wednesday) I drove something else to work. However once I got home I had to do a car shuffle which involved getting the LR into the shop. Parked it and went inside for dinner. I came out after about 80 minutes and saw this.

I got up into the engine compartment and looked in the valley and felt up the rear manifold. No visible signs of coolant and felt no wetness. Got it lifted up in the air, removed the skid plates and the lower front is covered with old and new coolant. It appears to be coming from the front of the engine, midway down somewhere. It only seems to leak when the truck was ran for short period of time, like minutes.

Other than the water pump, thermostat housing and hoses, are there any other spots that a leak like this could be coming from?

Service records shows that the crossover pipe and water pump were replaced at 66000k. The water pump has the brass fitting. Visually the front crossover is the newer version.
From reading pages and pages, it is probably worth it to replace the cross overs and y-pipe seeing that these are at about 50k. Lucky 8 has the Aluminium pipe kit with water pump and T-housing.
Does anyone have any experience with this kit?
I will also be replacing the hoses as most of them appear to be the original ones.

TIA

Yes! Replace all plastic bits every 40-50K !

I have no personal experience with the Aluminium replacements.

With a leak as shown, I would not be driving that anywhere!

Many locations for a leak "on the front of the engine"
My 2013 was at the oil cooler tube - if you have a factory original Ford labeled water pump then that o-ring in there is very poorly designed - new parts will all be Rover with a new design.
My 2026 was at the front crossover, the plastic failed inside the block at approximately where the o-ring is.

If you want to do this yourself - take a look at this.
It's my project on the 2016.

Thanks, I have watched your video, thanks a lot of good info there. The only planned driving is in and out of the shop. It might be a original Ford water pump, but not sure what was used when they replaced it in '21. I gathering the parts and will start tear down tonight.

Take a closer look at the front in order to get a clue. If its a pipe (but not limited too) it can burst and pump all your coolant out onto the freeway and I hear people don't have time to even pull over and stop before the heads warp, the block is aluminum too it will warp. $14k just for a new short block and the reality is if someone else does the work on a 111k mi. rig you are looking at $20k at least.

Got home this afternoon and put it on some ramp. It was dripping quite a bit and it appears to come from this. See photo. Can it come from there or is it coming from elsewhere?

I don’t see any drips. Looks like the vaccuum pump in your pic - coolant is not coming from that.

Morning all,

I got it all cleaned up and let it dry. Pulled if off the ramps and got it back into the shop. Crawled under it and could clearly see where it was coming from now that it was clean. It is coming from the water pump. It also is leaking from the little elbow on the water pump. I will be replacing the water pump and while I am in there I might as well.......I ordered parts yesterday and will start the teardown process.

Thanks for the insights
