    Transmisson Power

I read somewhere that a transmission should not have any power to move a vehicle when the brake pedal is released. In other words, while the foot is on the brake, the Rover is still wanting to move forward. One day, from a dead start, in Drive, I released the brake pedal and managed to drive...

    Help leaky problem

I have been perplexed at the leak in my Rover since I got the thing four years ago. Windshield: I sealed the rubber at the top with 3M Window-Weld, packing into the area where the original rubber mated into the glass. After a good summer of blistering hot days, the Window-Weld evaporated? or...

    Mpg

I get 15 City and 17 Highway I follow these simple rules: ## Comply with recommended fluid/filter changes periodicity. ## Watch tire pressures. ## Fix stuff the moment it happens. ## AND/OR Do not drive long after a code light is thrown. But the most important Rule: Stay in constant touch...

    Dash *Red* Brake Light

Fluid was full and light went away. This was the first time for this light and did not know whether I was into another series of searches/repair/replace until problem was solved.

    Dash *Red* Brake Light

I ran through a water puddle, like I always do and the Dash *Red* Brake light came on for a few moments. What sensor on the underside of the Rover triggered this event? Or... Is it something more sinister.

    Overfilled Oil

I stopped in a Shell Oil Change place one day ( I was lazy) and they told me they filled with 6.5 qts. I have only ever used 6 qts because I use the K&N 2004 oil filter. I think if the K&N 3001 oil filter was used then 6.5 qts would be correct. Anyways, I made them drain until the fill line was...

Truly "Happy" Disco owners- let me know if you exist!

I have had my 1998 Disco I for nearly four years now and with some minor maintenance, the vehicle has driven well. I even did 250 miles with an errant VSS. I have changed the PS pump, VSS, a couple of window arms, packed swivel balls with Rover Grease, changed all of the pumpkins with fresh 80W...

oxygen sensors part one of two

Pain As much as it pains the wallet, replace all four of your O2 sensors and be done with it. I replaced my a year and a half ago and have never regretted the money spent. The best prices were from oxygensensors.com. The installation was also a pain, so get help for the fron two.

    cylinder key lock

I had a similar problem and first checked whether I actually had the Rover in Park and it 'felt' like it was in park. I took some CRC Electrical Contact cleaner and squirted in the cylinder. Whoa! Appeared to be a mistake as the key 'felt' like it was locked in the cylinder. I finally got the...

    radiator fill plug

Calling it the viscous gets you to the AB part nomenclature, then the part number. Some places on the web, where we order are parts, refer to it as the viscous fan clutch. This just makes it easier to locate the whatchamacallit online or in a catalog.

    radiator fill plug

The cap is not fused, it just looks ugly and that is what plastic looks like when it fails in tension.. I used a very sharp screwdriver and cut at four quadrants to remove the plastic plug. Then I had to cut an additional two places to *peel* the plug out of the radiator. I also had help...

    radiator fill plug

A Story to ponder. Now this happened just a few weeks ago to lady at work. I managed to remove the plug that night, put fluid in the radiator and checked the level. I had a two dollar LR plug onhand for myself. [After that night, price damned, I bought a brass plug.] Well....the rest of the...

    $4.00 radiator cap - $3000 engine

Twenty bucks is cheap and sure beats sitting the rover in the driveway or even worse, stuck somewhere. And after what I saw with regards to removal of the plug, yikes! what a torturous mess. Three years ago, the price was fifteen bucks.

Opinions on best year for a used Disco

1998-1999 Discovery I, the only I owned, appears to be the vehicle for the mechanic. It is easy to access, fix, and drive. Sure it does not have the good styling of the DII but for a long term relationship, I think the DI would be the best. On another note: I am waiting to bottom feed on a...

Valve Cover to Ram Housing Hose (ERR4258)

Even if I ran Seafoam through how will Seafoam affect the passenger side valve cover? I am assuming that the fumes from the passenger side was vented by vacuum to the ram and consumed in combustion. What if I just allowed the fumes to vent? WIll that, eventually, burn out the sludge via fumes?

    $4.00 radiator cap - $3000 engine

Thanks Joey. However, the are bound to be some members that have found work-arounds not documented in this forum. I was wondering that if I was stranded and an Advance Auto or similiar auto store was around the corner, what could I use to correct the busted plug problem. The time it took to...

    $4.00 radiator cap - $3000 engine

Commentary - No problem. The other night I went and changed out a radiator cap with a spare I had for emergencies. The time it took to dig out the remainder of the cap threaded into the radiator and the fact that if the Rover had not blown the cap in the driveway, what problems could have...

Valve Cover to Ram Housing Hose (ERR4258)

While the engine was cold, I was able to remove the oil seperator. The seperator was a gunked up with oil sludge so I sprayed down with Seafoam and wire brushed the edges and reinstalled. The hose still collapsed. Instead of the LR hose I went and built one fro two other sized hoses and hose...

Valve Cover to Ram Housing Hose (ERR4258)

I guess I could 'clean' the oil seperator with contact cleaner and hope it unclogs the hole. Or I could spray Seamfoam into the hole and hope that will clean it out. Yes this is the hose on the passenger side and is three years old. How would you pull that piece of plastic out. From an image...

Valve Cover to Ram Housing Hose (ERR4258)

I just got back from replacing the radiator cap on another Rover and I thought I might look inside my engine when I got home. You know-- paranoia. I looked over at my Valve Cover to Ram Housing Hose (ER4258) and it looked like a flat worm. The Ram Hsg was drawing in but nothing was passing...
