Valve Adjustment To Correct Engine Bay Ticking?

Does it only happen when the engine is warm? Try re-torquing the exhaust manifolds. Specs call for 20Nm or 15 lb.ft. 1. Remove road wheel 2. Remove inner fender splash shield 3. Remove heat shield. 4. Torque and re-assemble Of course I say all this but haven't done it yet myself...

-Off topic- What kind of car did you own before your LR3?

Currently outside: 2005 LR3 HSE, 1997 BWM 740IL In chronological order as best as I can remember: 2002 LR DII 1983 MB 300TD (I meant to keep this and and the DII forever, but alas both totaled in a flood hence the LR3 and BMW) 1998 Jeep Wrangler 1994 911 1992 Jeep Wrangler 1987 Mazda...

    Headliner Falling down

I think headliner replacement is a function of where you live and not what you own. I have owned three different makes in SoFLa (BMW, Jeep, LR) and all have needed new headliners. New cars use a foam backed fabric that is glued to a liner tub. Over time the foam literally turns to dust and...

    Headliner Falling down

Headliner Update It took about two months from when I first noticed the headliner loose in a couple of places to it coming undone in all of the deeply recessed areas. The headliner came loose in the area under the sunvisors, around the grab handles, in the corners above the third row seats and...

    oil leak ?

Is your oil level dropping on the dip stick? I doubt you have an oil pan gasket/seal leak. It's likely that the washer under the sump drain has been re-used too many times. Think about it, take just two tablespoons of oil mix with road dust on the top of the skid plate and it will make a...

Tune Up - Should I do it myself?

Why do a tune up? There are no plug wires and the plugs aren't to be changed (I think) until 75,000 miles. The only scheduled maintenance needed is changing the oil and filters. If you insist on changing the plugs, you will need a plug socket with a firm rubber insert to hold the plug as...

    Factory Hitch Working Loose !

I've pulled a 4500 pound camper for about 10,000 miles. My hitch is solid. Get that checked out before you tow again. Nothing good happens when you try to stop a trailer held on only by the chains.

Whats up with the lifetime Auto Transmission Fluid?

I just changed my transmission fluid and filter at 80,000 miles. I would say that unless you really do a lot of towing, you can stick to the 10 year 150,000 mile service interval. The old oil wasn't that bad, not as clear as new and smelled worse but nothing like old engine oil and new oil. I...

    Headliner Falling down

Has anyone had their headliner start to come unglued? I just noticed that mine is starting to come off in the area of the second row seat grab handles. I have had to replace the headliner on every car that I have owned in SoFla. One would think that LR's would tolerate the heat and humidity...

    Brake Bleeding

I just bled my brakes at 75,000 miles and used the Castrol LMA. The pedal was firmer afterwards. It doesn't take much fluid, the quart of LMA is enough to do 3 or 4 vehicles. The whole thing can be done without taking off the wheels, just raise the suspension.

Adding a laser shifter to our LR3.

Move to Florida, an LR3 can't go fast enough to get a ticket in this state!

Just fixed (hopefully) a leaking sunroof...

To dry the carpet, pull the up on the door threshold trim and remove the foot well kick panels. If this is the drivers side, pull up on the pad on the foot rest to access the two 10mm (??) nuts to remove that. Lift the carpet and stick the nozel of your shop vac in there. You will be amazed...

How long are LR3 radiators good for?

Good question. I have been on this forum since Nov. 2005 ('05 HSE) and have never heard of a radiator going bad. But, every other vehicle (Maza, Isuzu, BMW) that I have owned with a plastic/aluminum unit has gone bad at about 100,000 miles or six years. A good way to see what parts are going...

    which fluids?

I tried searching for sources of the obscure names given for the oil requirements. I even went so far as to contact Shell to find an alternative. No luck. Could you go to Discount Auto Parts or Pep boys and get all of the fluids? Maybe, but I've heard of some horror stories with non factory...

How long do you plan on keeping your LR3?

I have an '05 HSE with 76,600 miles. I plan on keeping it until it dies. That said, I drive all of my vehicles very gently. I'll off road when I can and pull boats and campers but I never drive in a careless or abusive way. Think driving with eggs between your feet and the peddles. I am...

Where does the front brake sensor attach??

Don't forget that there is only one on each axle. Left front and right rear I believe. If you can't see it, maybe that's because you're looking at the side w/o a sensor. Once you get the wheel off, it's easy to follow the wiring to the connector.

    Wheel Centre Lube

You need to lube the wheel studs and the raised ring on the hub that fits into the rim. I use Permatex anti seize compound. One application last years. If you have ever had a rim seize to the hub, you'll understand the importance of this easy owner maintenance procedure.

    Discovery 3 water in footwell

Fixed The rubber bellows/grommet that led the drain tube through the side of the firewall in the drivers foot well had rotted away. The drain was going straight into the footwell. Here is how to fix it. 1. Pull up the door threshold trim from the front edge back to the B pillar. It...

Jaguard and Land Rover to share platforms

Looks like the LR4 is the end of the road for the model line that started with the Disco 1 and become the iconic style for true 4x4 SUV's.

    Discovery 3 water in footwell

Where are the drains? Four of them, right? Although most of the problems seem to occur with the front left (drivers in NA).

    Discovery 3 water in footwell

I've had the same situation with my '05. Dealer claims to have fixed clogged sunroof drains. I changed the A-post trim finisher clips and covered one of the holes as per a service notice and I still have water in the drivers sill. Does anyone know where the drain tubes for sunroof are...

    Cracked Dash

GMT, what year LR3? Purchased new or used? Where do you live, in intense sun? After having mine replaced, I want to know if I should anticipate needing to do it again. I see the the LR4 has a leather covered dash. Is a leather dash cheaper for LR than replacing cracked plastic under warranty?

    New Brakes?

I second the opinion of going with stock pads with a Land Rover. Brake pads are a compromise of cold stopping power, fade resistance, dust, noise, longevity, price, rotor wear and with 4x4's, wet performance. The stock pads are the best compromise for the driving conditions that most of us...

Someone explain how to use a recovery strap please.

Don't pass the standing part of the strap through the loop. Just push enough of the loop through the recovery eye so that the stick can then pass through the loop. The stick now acts as a safety release, breaking before the strap or the recovery point. If on your first attempt, the stick...
