You lose the CD player and the 4x4 screens (tho you still get a little view on the main dash when in 4x4) You gain a sharper screen, features like car play and android auto and a much snappier response time. You also get a Sirius XM option. The sound seems better as well, tho with the same amp... -

Ha! I hear you. I have had the same single cd sitting in that player for years. I loved it but life moves on it was a little sad to eject it before the conversion. My goal was not an improvement in the audio so much as just having a more responsive and feature-rich head unit. -

No, the kit from Spiral will have all you need. There is both an option to retain the OEM amp or replace that with something new. The key is make damn sure the year is correct - there is a difference between ‘09 - ‘11 and ‘12+ Good luck! -

I learned the hard way that there is a big difference between 2009-2011 models and 2012+. Make double sure who get the right kit for your model year. -

2012 V8 vs 2016 V6
Sure and I am of course, just one opinion but I found the V6 to feel underpowered and laggy in that turbo-lag kind of way. The eco engine cut-off was also very annoying to me. I got into the habit of turning it off but always felt like a nuisance to me. The LR4 can run on that delicate line... -

i had both a 2012 and the 2016 V6 at the same time. I have always loved the V8 in my 2012 and really surprised myself in how much I did not like the V6 -- so much so that even as an ardent LR4 fan, got rid of it after a few months. -

Windshield
I had to replace mine not too long ago. USAA and Safelite. I don't know what I got, but it's a poor substitute for OEM. Heating element in windshield is distractingly visible vs OEM. Significant loss in quality. -

That, @ryanjl, is a very good question. The kits I have seen like this all seem to place the screen lower that OEM though I don't know why they could not extend higher. You did get me thinking about height this evening but the new screen only goes down to the top of the temp gage line and it... -

I'd prefer to have a modern head unit (Pioneer, Alpine etc...). Something that could be fixed vs a custom screen like that out of China. Maybe, we'll see. I don't think it's too low and don't use the screen a lot anyway (begs the question of why buy a new unit then?). Phone sits up high and that's where most of the music and Nav gets done. Mostly it's just scratching an itch I have had to modernize the system for years. -

Showoff Your LR4
This is the set-up I have on mine. 1.25” spacers. 265/65 18s BFG ATs I still get a little steering wheel shimmy at certain speeds but it’s been well worth it. -
