    You can put them in hunting / camping "mode". Hold down the center button for ~20 seconds. The cluster will tell you that the lights are now off. Only down side is that the lights wont turn on at all. It never really bothered me and I left them off all of the time.

    Are you seeing 12v with ignition off and engine off? Or ignition on and engine off? If the former, that is worrisome. If the latter, it makes sense as the MOSFET is opening in preparation for the alternator to charge batt 2.

    These are the only pics I have on my phone. You can do what the OP did: cut off frame horns and weld a blank back on. Or, be lazy like me and notch, remove some bulk, and bend / hammer the frame horns into the frame.

    I just went through all of my pictures. I don't remember it attached to anything; and, in the pics with the sc removed, there was nothing to attach to it. If I remember correctly, it's completely blocked off.

    Try prying on the right side only. If I remember right, the cover has just enough give to unclip from one side, and then the whole thing slides off. If you try pulling both sides at the same time, or from the top / bottom, the clips will not disengage.

    Check the knob on the side of the steering wheel. Make sure it is moved to "auto". This will enable the "easy exit" setting.
