    Project Dark Knight Rising

Thanks for the well wishes! I'm getting close, but the hardest part is yet to come, and that's figuring the SDD tool out enough to unlock and integrate the PCM to get the car to start!!

    Intercooler pump mounting pics

Looking at the ferment notes across several websites, it’s the same Bosch pump from 2006 - 2015. But one would think the larger supercharger would require more cooling…

    Intercooler pump mounting pics

That’s perfect! Thank you! I figured it mounted to the frame or over next to the reservoir/power steering reservoir. I have all the hoses, and in truth I figured they’d lead me to the proper mounting location! The good news is that if the radiator is any indication, the mounting points will...

    Intercooler pump mounting pics

Hey All! I’m just about finished with the 5.0SC swap into my 2012 LR4. In theory, I am going to finish connecting all the coolant hoses this weekend and charge the system. The big ask I have for y’all is if you have any pics of exactly where the intercooler pump is mounted? I have a new pump...

    Project Dark Knight Rising

Hey All!! Well, it's been a hot minute, but I finally got all the "to-do" list taken care of at my mom's place, and FINALLY had a few minutes to work on my project! I wish I could report it fired up and ran great...but I'm not quite there yet. I had to order a few new parts to finish the SC...

    AC Condenser Replacement Part Quality?

I know it's been a hot minute, but I finally got all the "honey-do" projects done at my mom's place and had a few minutes to work on my project again! So, after our discussions here I decided to "just" buy the charcoal canister and see how things went. Truthfully, with the cooling core out...

Transmission taking too long to shift

Aside from the sheer cost of the fluid, the beauty of “just doing” fluid is that you don’t have to pull the pan. Once you pull the pan, that’s when all those options come into play. That said, in truth, I went in the first time I did mine and only swapped mechanic seals and upgraded to the...

Zip kit and fluid change, now won't go past 5th

Hopefully the original shop will do the right thing. On a good note, once the mechanic is correctly reassembled…with yet another new separator plate, it should be fine and able to transplant to any new transmission, be it a rebuilt one of a used one. FYI, I just rebuilt one for my SCV8 LR4...

Zip kit and fluid change, now won't go past 5th

I’ll second that! I bought one that had 70K on it, and while I did go in and rebuild it as a precaution, the internals were in impeccable shape. These ZF gearboxes really do last.

Transmission taking too long to shift

You don’t need to manually shift 1-6, just, R-N-D-N-R-P. Just make sure you pause for 10-15 seconds in each gear to allow for all the air to be purged from the channels.

    High Pressure Fuel Pump Question

Lesson learned when I swapped mine, pulled the alternator....it'll make life A LOT easier to get to. then start at the front and work toward the rear. I left the alternator in while I tried to get them off and it was a pain. As for the one bank running "rich," I'd smoke check the intake...

    F/S: iLand diagnostic tool

is it the new version of the old version? Sorry, I bought one a while back and they've since updated the tool and no longer support mine. But the new version might be useful!

Transmission taking too long to shift

Sorry, late to the party here. First, we have a ZF 6HP28 in these trucks, not the 26. For the most part, there are no differences, but it's the internals to the mechatronic that are slightly different. As for his issues, I agree with everyone above, change the fluid, and replace the...

    AC Condenser Replacement Part Quality?

Hmmm…granted I didn’t 100% check, but it thought it was soldered to the condenser. Maybe there’s a fitting there I didn’t see. If so, perhaps just the drier is in order then.

    AC Condenser Replacement Part Quality?

Yeah, I think you’re right…I don’t know if the risk of going aftermarket with this is worth it. Thanks for the comments, I’ll pull the trigger on a good replacement sometime next week. Gonna be another couple of weeks before I can back at it.

Zip kit and fluid change, now won't go past 5th

Good luck! Hopefully it's something simple! (It never is, but I keep hoping!) Let us know what the new shop says.

    AC Condenser Replacement Part Quality?

There in lies the problem. I don’t have the plastic caps, and I’ve stashed the car at my parents’ place as I’ve had to move into the city….tiny apartment, no shop. So, it’s gonna sit for a while before I can get back to it. Of course I’ll vacuum the system down, and I have new seals for it...

Zip kit and fluid change, now won't go past 5th

Full disclosure, I don't have too much experience with the 8 speed, but I do have quite a bit with the 6 speed, and they're VERY similar. While I won't call the original shop liars, I have NEVER heard of, "the debris providing the necessary friction" for a transmission. I have heard of...

    AC Condenser Replacement Part Quality?

As I'm in the middle of an engine swap, I thought it best to replace the AC condenser since the system has been evacuated and disconnected....and it's gonna sit for like a month. Basically, I expect the receiver drier to be toast, and really anytime you crack these systems open, it's a decent...

    Project Dark Knight Rising

Well, move is complete...ish. LR4 is stashed at my parents house, and now I just need a weekend to get back to it! A couple things before that I wanted to share: 1st, the power steering cooler. Here's a good pic so you can see how the NA cooler lines up wrong, but the "straight" SC. one...

    Project Dark Knight Rising

Ok, so a few notes as I finish packing the Uhaul and hit the road today. First, I discovered the power steering cooler is slightly different between the SC and NA models, so I'll be swapping that out in the next few weeks. The NA cooler dips down and interferes with the intercooler, the SC...

    Project Dark Knight Rising

I'm glad y'all like it, I'm trying to provide an in depth swap description so that if anyone ever wants to try this again, most of the issues they'll run into will be covered here. That said, each swap will be different, and I'm sure others will run into completely different issues than I...

    Project Dark Knight Rising

It's been a long couple of days.... The Uhaul is almost full...except for my tools and random car parts, and the rest of the family is already gone. While I don't know if it'll run yet, today....today I was victorious! All but 2 of the body bolts are in. Tomorrow I need to run around...

    Project Dark Knight Rising

There's nothing like moving while trying to rebuild a car at the same time. (Insert facepalm here!!!). Thankfully, I've been making some good progress on several fronts. First, I got the engine in the frame, transmission and transfer case all bolted back up. That said, I've made some...

    Project Dark Knight Rising

Not too much to report today. Most of the day I spent packing the final odds and ends in the house. The Uhaul arrives Monday. Tomorrow is the big push to get the new engine into the frame and then the body back on. Yesterday I kept buttoning up odds and ends, got the power steering pump...
