    LR4 Mileage Poll

LOL...so true! I had a 2002 and 2005 allroad and had to remove the entire front end a few times. I remember my wife asking "Do you think you can put it all back together?" Funny how the LR4 reminds me of the original allroad. We all vowed to keep them running forever and never give them up...

    LR4 Mileage Poll

Somehow I suspect that driving in Alberta and driving in the Boston area are two very different experiences. Do streets in Alberta actually have street signs? Ours don't. Do Alberta drivers ever use turn signals on the highway? (Nobody uses their "blinkah" here) How about being allowed to...

    Combining spare-on-bumper with bike rack

All of us Defender owners are dealing with the same issue. Your best option may be a hitch extender to mount the bike rack on. That would give you clearance for a rear mounted spare tire. Here in the US, we are ordering this solution: https://rakattach.com/ Not sure if they ship to Western...

    Corroded backup camera harness ??

As noted above, look for a shorted out parking sensor first. That can cause the error message you are seeing. To answer your question, yes, both my rear camera and camera wiring harness needed to be replaced. Apparently the gasket behind that rear bump-out (Where the hatch release button...

    V8 Defender

As a P400 owner, not sure why you would need the extra 130 HP. Maybe to blow the doors off a G-Wagon at a stoplight. 22"wheels would be useless offroad as well.

    2021 Discovery Order

I ordered my 2021 Defender in September 2020 and received it in early February. 2022 Defender orders started on March 1st and I'm told they will be on to 2022 orders by the end of the summer. I would think that Discovery 5 order time is shorter. Although, the D5 and Defender are both...

    Defender 130 an LR4 replacement?

Entirely possible and I completely understand why. Just don't make the mistake I did and test drive a P400 Defender for 90 minutes. Suddenly "Never" becomes "Maybe". ;)

    As Predicted. (Defender news)

So true. That was the biggest adjustment I found. Felt like I went from driving a fishbowl to an army tank with view slits. Wide rear C-pillars and the big spare tire covering the rear window make it worse. I found myself constantly looking around and checking blind spots when changing lanes...

    As Predicted. (Defender news)

Exactly. I'll probably swap out my 110 for a 130 for just that reason. Anyone seriously interested in a 130 should watch for when the LR order system adds the 130 model. 2021 Defender orders are already closed. They started taking 2022 orders March 1st. Rumor is that 2023 orders could begin...

    As Predicted. (Defender news)

I want the LR4 cabin mounted on the Defender chassis. Still love the LR4 interior, tall windows, split tailgate, etc. But put it on the Defender chassis with better handling & agility plus the P400 engine. Include the fast Pivi Pro infotainment system and more capable terrain response system too.

    Defender 130 an LR4 replacement?

In regard to interior space and cargo room, the D5 is a better replacement for an LR4 than the 110. The 110 has more front and rear leg room than an LR4 but the rear cargo area is about 30% smaller than the LR4. However, you can pack the rear cargo area to the headliner and flip the switch on...

V8 owners try this and let me know: sand mode

^This. I was in Maine once where it snowed 3 feet overnight. Most vehicles were paralyzed. Between lift and mud/ruts mode I was able to drive out of our unplowed condo road. Nokian Hakkas deserve credit as well.

    As Predicted. (Defender news)

2023 model? Given the worldwide chip shortage, right now you can only order a 2022 model Defender and production schedules & expected delivery dates are no longer provided by the factory. I wonder if it's a BMW V8 or some variant of our Ford-based V8's. If Ford, hopefully they switched to a...

    Onboard Spare parts when off-roading/overlanding

I'm going to see if the LR3 tire winch is still available from LR parts. It had a 22mm bolt that you attach the lug wrench (or any socket driver) to. The only reason LR changed the winch design was because lazy tire places would take an air gun to the winch and ruin it.

    Onboard Spare parts when off-roading/overlanding

I really can't think of any spare parts you should carry for an LR4. (Unlike the LR3 brake switch) Not practical to change a coolant manifold, crossover pipe or alternator on a trip. Bring a Micro Start XP-10. Can jump an LR4 and charge other electronics. I recently added a set of...

He is flying up to get it then driving it back home to North Carolina from Boston.

What did you do with your Lr4 Today?

So true...as of last week I now have a brand new alternator, battery, valve cover gasket, upper timing cover gasket and front crossover pipe. Now I have to drive it more to get my money's worth out of these repairs.

What did you do with your Lr4 Today?

Not if you keep dumping thousands of dollars into it. Every time I pay for another repair I decide to keep it longer.

What did you do with your Lr4 Today?

The "enthusiast" has a new Defender, so our red LR4 is for his wife. Her 2011 LR4 has 130K miles and she only wanted another LR4 to replace it. Our red LR4 had 33K miles, so it has many years to go.

What did you do with your Lr4 Today?

Today I sold our 2013 red HSE-LUX LR4. We had planned to sell the gray one upon the arrival of the Defender. However our red one was a far better fit (low miles & rear locker) for the buyer and it really held it's value. Plus we dumped another $2500 of repairs into the gray one last week so it...

Anyone know a reasonable dealer for timing chains 2011 LR4?

Last week the guy checking out next to me at the Land Rover dealer said "I can't believe the timing chain job costs $9600". So your dealer in ME is using the same pricing as my local dealer here in Hanover, MA.

Does your date move to european format in its own?

I'm not so sure based on my experience. I've gone through 4 batteries on our LR4's. Every one went bad at about 4 years and the time display changed format just before each checked-out. Your bigger concern could be the passenger side valve cover gasket dripping oil into the alternator which...

Control Arm bushing repair NYC area

I can't help you with the mechanic referral, but buy the control arms from Atlantic British. No need to buy OEM control arms from the dealer. If over 100K mikes, check out your rear upper control arm bushings too. I just replaced my upper rear control arms at 130K miles. Definitely improved...

    Oil leak?

My first valve cover gasket & alternator job was at 98K before my CPO warranty was up. I'm on my second valve cover gasket & alternator at 130K miles and fixing an oil leak at the upper timing chain cover as well. And replacing the front crossover pipe while in there. Already did the rear...
