I went with the 98 for the same reason - runs good and I can do most of the up keep
(ok so the rear sunroof leaks - havent had time to pull the head liner)
when I owned my jeep (BLR - before my LR)...same thing - get the tires rotated - they came back and said I needed brakes and other things I dont recall right now - the as@#$%le didnt know I do all the work on my car myself and just change the brakes about 15k ago - after I told him that he shut...
first things first:
how many miles?
any modifications?
off-road alot?
how long have you owned the car/maintainence history?
item 1 - I have known some cars to develope this vibration when idling in drive with the AC on (after several years - 2 seems a little young)- of course if your...
thanks for the machanics links joey
correction to last post - there was antifreeze in it when it overheaded and it was the overflow that was spraying onto the engine creating the steem..

My mom has a D2 2000 w/ 8*k miles - stock

the other day on the way to work the vehicle overheated (within a few min after starting - her comute is only 10 min and this was half way there)- as soon as the red light came on she pulled off the road...
I think usually what goes in a electric motor/generator/altinator is the brushes - right?
couldnt you just replace the brushes instead of 300.00 for a remanufactured one?
(I think I did this years ago with a toyota)
after replacing all of my u-joints I have come to a few conclusions:
1. yes they did help - especially the 'let off the gas thunk'
2. if I could just slow the hell down and not always be in a hurry and actually wait for the vehicle to relax (ie not shifting into reverse with potential energy...
I have noticed they are a little highter then others but tend to have everything..
you could also try British Pacific - I purchased my u-joint from them and they were half the price of others (same exact model # and all) (including Atlantic British) - but I priced several other things from them...
ok so I replaced all u-joint (4) - (boy was that fun-need workbench and lift)
it did decrease the thunk quit a bit - dont really hear the kickback like I did before (after accelorating and then letting off the gas)
it still has a bit of a thunk going into reverse but seems to only be bad when...
yeah - I think i will try option 2 - I really dont need auto dim - dont think it ever worked anyway
any tips since you have done it before - like how the assembly fits together - I am imagining I will have to pry it apart?
wonder if I could place the fluid/seal?
how much was a new one...
ok this is kinda funny - my 98 D1 runs great but the other day I get in the truck and notice the rearveiw looks like a cheap lava lamp - then notice the fluid directly below it - is this the 'auto dim' in the rearview doin the LR twist?
no big deal but has anyone else had this happen - can I...

when I shift into Reverse (after driving in Drive) I get a thunk...
when I shift into reverse after just starting the car (not driving in Drive yet) - no thunk
when driving in drive and completely let off gas after accelerating (w/o hitting brake) I hear a delayed thunk (more subtle) but from...
why?
My LR Disco - leaks like no ones buisness but runs great - I just keep the levels full
I would ask for any vehical history that they might have.
You may find a non-dealer shop that works on Landy's that may do a check - I found one in my area - (I also have a D1 not D2 - D2 more dealer)
I know rovers leak but I am seeing excesive transfercase fluid.
the other day my cotter pin for the shift linkage rusted out as I was in bumper to bumper traffic - b/c I was basically crawling I put the tranny in 2nd gear - when I went to shift to 3rd - the shifter just moved back and forth -...
I dont completely agree with the last post. I too have seen the problems on the forums - I also spent 3 months researching this vehicle. I was in the same position (I owned a Jeep 98') I considered buying a Jeep Cherokee - glad I didnt - everyone I know that has one has issues. My honest opinion...
