Engine hesitates, stumbles, and dies (black smoke included!)

So I just took a peek around my car and found that there was a pair of wires dangling from an electric connector...but seemed to have been disconnected from the actual sensor (the wires were soldered on). I don't quite know what this sensor is, but it is a bolt type sensor that screws into the...

Engine hesitates, stumbles, and dies (black smoke included!)

Yes, that is what my thinking was..I know it is a sensor of some sort because if I turn my rover on, it will idle normally. It is only when I drive around for 10 minutes with the engine hot that I get extremely rough idle, clouds of black smoke, and stalling. If i keep my foot on the brake and...

Engine hesitates, stumbles, and dies (black smoke included!)

Would I get black smoke because of a bad pump?

Engine hesitates, stumbles, and dies (black smoke included!)

I was wondering if ya'll would like to help me diagnose a problem my 93 RRC LWB is having: 1) I cleaned out the air filter, MAF, and throttle body a few days before this started happening 2) Very randomly, my engine will start to go off of the wall in the low RPM range (bounces up and down...

    92 Classic Not Starting.. Sudden

It is the front panel of the seat base (I don't know why the website says side panel..?), and yes it is the little black box on the end of the cord. Once you put the key in the last position before starting, the black box should have a number displayed. Use the link I provided to make some sense...

    92 Classic Not Starting.. Sudden

There is an black LCD display under the passenger side front seat (front of the base) next to the ECU...there should be a red number displayed. Go to http://www.robisonservice.com/servicedep/rover_trouble.asp to check what the code means

    92 Classic Not Starting.. Sudden

Mine did this not too long ago...It turns out the fuse to the fuel pump melted. This fuse is located under the front passenger seat. You can check the owner's manual for the specific one.

    Engine Hesitation, Stalling

Hey guys, So a new gremlin has crept into my engine bay: This weekend, it happened to me twice...the engine will drop down to about 1000 RPMs and will bounce around from 0 to ~1000 RPMs and then die. Increasing the throttle has no effect, it just sits there, surging and eventually dying. If...

    Bucking Disco

I've a range rover classic, and this has happened to be me once or twice while going ~65mph...it seems to drop power, speedo goes to 0, and then goes back to normal. It may have something to do with the Throttle Position Sensor?

    A little adventure...

So, as i was driving the down the highway...coolant level light starts blinking...I start losing power, and smoke starts trailing from under my hood. I couldn't figure it out at the time, but after pushing the car to the nearby exit, I find out that I have a gash is one of my hoses and the water...

    Generic fuel pump

I am planning on replacing my fuel pump as a preventive measure with a generic version (Airtex 3240) and was wondering if anybody has had any experience replacing their classic with a generic one as well (I've been reading up on this at...

    Cleaning MAF Sensor

Here is a very detailed explanation/steps for cleaning your MAF sensor. Let me know the results, because I'm considering doing so myself. From what I gather, the MAF sensor is very delicate so don't drop it haha. http://www.rangie.com/articles_latest.php?id=7364&

Rear Tail Lamp Guard - Classic

I am missing a left rear tail lamp guard that came as a dealer option. I am told that they do not make these anymore, and I am dying to find a used one. I have been on this quest for a couple of months now, and my classic looks very sad with only the right tail light guard. My local british auto...

    Cruise Control on RR classic

Well, what I meant was that the light IN the switch lights up, but there is no light that shows up on the dash. How easy is it to replace all three lines?

    Cruise Control on RR classic

I've been doing quite of bit of highway travel with my classic...and it got me wishing the cruise control worked. The vacuum lines are partially disintegrated at the plastic "T" joint...I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with the Cruise Control on a classic? I am thinking about...

    Ground locations?

update... So when I hit a rough bump, the low fuel light, the seatbelt, and the battery light flicker. Tach and Speedometer suddenly drop to 0 and then pick back up where they left off... grr. Winter is coming soon and I want to make sure that these small electrical problems won't get me...

    Ground locations?

I think I am having issues with grounds because sometimes when I hit some nasty bumps I'll have the low fuel light come on along with the unfastened seatbelt light. I just was wondering if anybody knew where the various grounds are for the more important electrical components? Also, lately I...

    Ridiculously leaky steering box

Yup...after playing with the steering with the car on and hood up, I found that I have pretty much a burst P/S hose going from the pump to the box (box end). It was actually quite frightening seeing blood red PS fluid shoot six inches out of the hose! This is good news, because I also checked...

    Ridiculously leaky steering box

I've already had my steering box replaced once, and I just came back from some off roading and worked the suspension pretty well, and now I have a steady drip from my steering box. This does not make me happy, and I have run a bottle of Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak once. I'm thinking about...

    Cannot remove old O2 sensors...

Update: So yesterday, I disconnect the negative battery lead for about an hour, came back, and the the check engine light was cleared. Knowing it would probably came back, I drove it about 110 miles PERFECTLY...i've registered the best gas mileage i've had yet (205 miles on 15 gallons of gas)...

    Cannot remove old O2 sensors...

Ok, I had better success with the tube wrench. These were rusted badly to the exhaust pipe, but I finally managed to get them off. Worked beautifully with the replaced 02 sensors...noticed a dramatic improvement in gas mileage...NEW PROBLEM...light came back on, code 44, and bad gas mileage =[...

    Cannot remove old O2 sensors...

Soooo....I'm trying to figure out how to get my old 02 sensors off...I cannot, for the love of God, find a wrench that fits. 11/16 is only slightly bigger but is the only one that will hold it. Anything smaller is a bit too small. These sensors are definitely not wanting to budge, because using...
