Back in for another major surgery.

Sorry, I am a bit unclear. You mention a leaking valve seal. Is that leading to a $6k job that you guys are splitting? I assume the valve seal dropped the oil level. When you say "half" you mean 4 quarts out of the 8 were burned via the leak? My first car, a 1990 MB 190E 2.6 with 140k+ miles...

    Seat Belt Part

Honestly, I seriously doubt that. That's a pretty neat and tidy sub-assembly. It's also a safety-related component, and that may be more reason for LR to not want people to "crack it open." I'd say try a junkyard. I would think you ought to be able to pick that up for cheap. When we develop...

    Wet Driver floorboard 2011 LR4

No issues and I use my sunroof a lot but I do garage the vehicle. Makes a huge difference in many regards. Every time I wash it, I check while I rinse that water flow freely out of the drains (behind front wheels).

    Well crap!

It's just wise to tackle this preemptively. Wasn't there a theory that these failures (particularly the catastrophic type) was more prevalent in hot weather climates? Despite the low miles, I plan on preventive cooling system work at 8 years (Fall 2021) when I expect to have 52-55k miles. My...

    Well crap!

    Agreed.

    Well crap!

It depends on how catastrophic the failure is, I suppose.

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

Interesting. I'm fond of MB's and my first car (bought in 2000) was a 1990 190E 2.6. I recall using Mobil1 10W-30 on that for the 5 years I owned it. I'm tempted to pick up a nice R129 SL600.

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

That's interesting. A few years ago everyone was swearing by Mobil1 0W-40 for German cars. That's what I used on my 997TT and our Cooper S. I no longer have those cars but I'm still sitting on 5 quarts of it.

    Well crap!

That sucks, man. If it is in such great shape, it maybe worth something decent with a "new" engine. At the very least you could keep it going yourself. It's all up to the actual cost to repair, of course.

Anyone here with a marmaris teal LR4?

I really wanted a red LR4, but my wife vetoed that. We ended up with Corris which is a fine color.

Anyone here with a marmaris teal LR4?

Agreed. I've seen a couple of grays, and one each of dark blue, dark green, Ipanema, and Silver. This is over many years. And there are a lot of Rovers in the Boston area. But yeah, tons of white and black.

    Ugh!!! Catastrophic head gasket failure?

    Tire Match F/R

I'd say that is pushing it for sure. That is why I rotate the full size spare into the mix. Don't want a new tire replacing very worn ones.

Horrible grinding sound when starting engine

I'd agree. It takes two to tango. Unless one of the two was designed as the sacrificial part, the other component is being impacted as well.

    That's great to hear.

    2015 LR4 BRAKES

That would do it. I do take it easy on my LR4 except for rare situations. I go fast with other cars. The LR4 is my chill vehicle. But every once in a while, when it is very warmed up, I do give it an Italian tune-up.

    2015 LR4 BRAKES

Zimmerman and Pagid are very good brands. I've used them on previous BMW and Mercedes. I believe they are, or at least were at times, OEM for those German car companies.

    2015 LR4 BRAKES

Also, this thread I started when I first did the rear pads has measurements of disc wear, if you care. I later updated the thread with info from a later brake job. https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/changing-rear-brakes-now-some-questions.28728/

    2015 LR4 BRAKES

Agreed. I bought a full OEM set at 3 years/20k miles since new (rear pads where fairly worn), and only recently changed the rear pads a second time (they seem to last me 20k miles). The rear rotors still had plenty of life at 40k miles but were rusty and the car was having a slight vibration...

    2015 LR4 BRAKES

I recall a pretty lengthy discussion about this topic months ago here. In short, there are quality aftermarket discs for less than OEM. I personally use OEM but admittedly I only put 7k miles a year on average. I do get suspicious when brake components are too cheap.

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

Interesting. At first I was going to say that is totally normal - sounds like mine. But later you do hear a secondary sound that I do not have.

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

Thanks for the input. I've had mine since new and knew it would not be driven too much. I average under 7k miles per year, so I should be able to hold on to it for a long time, I hope.

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

A bit off-topic but upon reading about the improved engine cooling for this block, I do have to say that this engine gets to temperature remarkably quickly. It's kind of amazing actually. It's a shame the cooling system is a weak point as far as leaks from hoses and pump, but when it works, it...

3K oil change intervals for our LR4s?

John, if you don't mind a tangential question, what is your take on the idea that late 2012-and-on LR4's had the issue corrected? At first we believed (hoped?) that such cars would be immune thanks to a revised part with an insert that would prevent the wear point, but we have heard some...

    Purchasing Pre-Owned LR4: 2015 vs. 2016

I have a 2013 that I ordered in Corris with Arabica/Almond and I love it. Most of the interior is almond except for the seats and the tops of the doors and dash. And since I bought it I've had the second row wrapped in the LR seat covers in Almond to protect the leather from the kids (pricey but...
