    Reliability

Same here. Shell 93 nearly always. Sometimes Mobil1 or Sunoco as back-up.

    Reliability

6.5 years and 42k miles on our 2013. Pads all around and fluid services (oil, diffs, Xfer case, brake flush). Besides that, just a couple of minor things taken care of under warranty about 3-4 years ago: 1) Pwr driver seat would not move back 2) Driver's folding mirror acted up 3) Driver's side...

    High revs when cold

By 100k miles (although you are in Canada so you could mean km) the transmission fluid should have been changed. If you don't know for sure, I'd look into performing that service. But by all means start by checking fluid levels.

    Two issues with my LR4

A lot of cars "tick" until they warm up. That is pretty normal.

Odd Engine Noise part 2, with video!

I am no expert at engine noises, but if I hear it correctly, it seems to idle fine. The noise comes as the throttle is increased and then released. Hard to tell from the audio if it is internal or external. Is this LR4 new to you? If so, how long have you had it and what is the service history?

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

One of my biggest pet peeves in the LR4 is the oil readout. It's so finicky. Can't be be cold. Can't be too hot. Can't be on an incline. Engine must be off. WTF?!

    Share your most expensive repairs

Sure, but the warranty bill is prices out a brand new OEM box at MSRP and book labor rates at the dealership. Quite sure that out of warranty an indie sources one and installs it for less than 5k.

Alternative to Dealer Only Castrol Professional "E" for 2014-16 LR4's

My rule of thumb has ALWAYS been to half the manufacturer's recommendations for oil change intervals or do it once a year, whichever comes first. In the case of the LR4 that was 7.5k miles. I also do an oil change on new cars after a couple of thousand miles. But based on the history we re...

    Costco's Kirkland Signature 5W-20?

Sure! Hey, if had a Ford GT I also would not put Kirkland oil in it. ;) It has noting to do with "Ford." The Lotus Evora has a Camry engine it. I'd still look after it given the level of tuning.

    Costco's Kirkland Signature 5W-20?

Maybe I'm a snob, but the idea of putting Kirkland oil in my LR4 engine gives em the willies. The Mobil1 EP 5W-20 is pretty darn cheap at Walmart. While I'm at it, I'm probably a snob by only feeding Shell 93 octane. In a pinch I'll do Mobil 93 or Sunoco 93.

2013 LR4 engine noise from back, not timing chain

Agree with both above posts. $8k is crazy and him so willing to counter is highly suspect. A second opinion is in order here.

    Brake noise question

Sounds like the calipers are sticking. Assuming that happens consistently. I'd use the brakes a bit and then stop the car and see if any one wheel seems hotter than the others.

    Stability control not available

That is pretty cold. I would expect some non-critical components to misbehave.

Agreed. That's a shame. Do let us know if they can tell you anything about the root cause.

    LR 4 Retired

Let's also be honest and realize that those who bought it new at 60k+ can likely also afford to move on when their vehicle "gets old." The LR4 is somewhat unique and can form a relatively strong bond that makes people put up with more stuff and keep driving it for longer. Maybe it's because...

    Nav Screen Head Unit Dead

This is probably not much help, but I would check that in the process of fiddling with it you did not blow a fuse by shorting something. Check those. Then I would unplug the battery for a while, cross tour fingers and reconnect.

    Low coolant. No leak?

Not to speak for cperez, but generally, a catastrophic coolant loss can overheat and ruin your engine. Given their cost on these vehicles, that could mean a death sentence. So catching a cooling issue without a major overheating event is "dodging a major bullet." These LR4's are great, but the...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

I did notice that as well. That is a pretty stark difference. A few other elements did go down since the change, but all within range (Calcium, Boron, Aluminum).

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

I don't clean mine. For the record, this last (3d) sample was taken from gravity-drained oil halfway during the draining per Blackstone's directions. The prior two samples were taken from the Mityvac.
