    Another Defender hint?

I was so excited to see a manual transmission will be available on the bronco. But sadly it is only available with the 4-cylinder not the V6. I want the manual and the V6. If Jeep can offer that on a 4-door wrangler, so should Ford. You can already imagine all the accessories (light bars...

    Another Defender hint?

Those of us that love our LR4 but won't be taking it past 150K miles. At 150K miles I'll need another set of control arms, many fluid changes including transmission, another set of brakes, probably a new hub or two, another water pump, new tires, new battery, etc. That may be the point where I...

    Blinding splash issue

So true, my kids love when I drive through a deep puddle and the tidal wave of water comes up and over the entire windshield. I get the "do it again" request and have to aim for the next deep puddle.

    Blinding splash issue

The reason is simple...the front tires are located just behind the front bumper. Good for off road approach angle, bad for splashing water forward then you drive into it. Best fix is to buy a vehicle with the front wheels set farther back with more hood and front fender in front of the wheels...

Renaming to "Asian Gentleman Gulch" to follow soon.

Anyone moved from an LR4 to a Velar?

Not sure, I just know it was the 6-cylinder P380 with adjustable suspension. You could select 4 different driving modes on the touch screen. I think it was a regular S model but it had the Dynamic handling package option.

Anyone moved from an LR4 to a Velar?

Just had a Velar loaner too. I didn't like the short side windows and it felt like I was sitting in a bath tub compared to the LR4 seating position and view. My Velar loaner was the 6 cylinder model. (P380?) At first I thought it drove like a Buick. Then I figured out the previous driver had...

    Well crap!

About 5 years ago JD Power and Consumer Reports ranked Audi near the top. Suddenly my in-laws' Florida retirement community parking lot was filled with white and silver Q5's. Next visit it should be back to all white and silver RX350's.

    tires for LR4

Wildpeak AT Trail are far less aggressive than the Wildpeak AT3. Love my Nokian winter tires as they do a great job of turning and stopping the heavy LR4.

    LR4 vs Defender

Like I said, the new Defender make help D5 sales as some people may want more luxury for the $75K price tag and may not need extreme off road capability. I need unstoppable ability in a blizzard with snow mode and beach sand traction. Defender and D5 can do both. Maybe I want a D5 first row...

    It's here, now what?

I'm thinking V6, HSE trim level that includes the sunroof and nicer leather seats. I noticed that heated rear seats are not standard. You need to select them in the "interior" build section. And I can't live without a heated steering wheel after having one for years. I'll need that...

    tires for LR4

Winter: Nokian Hakka SUV R3 Summer: Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail https://www.falkentire.com/tires/light-truck-suv-cuv-tires/wildpeak/t-trail-tire I had been using the Cooper Zeons in summer but just switched to the Falken. Most of my summer off road driving is in soft sand on a beach. When...

    Another Defender hint?

My Defender HSE build is $76K, so my guess for a 130 V8 is $96K. The difference between a RRS HST with a V6 MHEV and a RRS with the SCV8 is $5K. Add $15K for the 110 to 130 jump.

    Another Defender hint?

JLR's best chance of selling a Defender is to someone that is coming from an LR3 or LR4. Most family-hauling SUV buyers don't need superior off-road capability. But they do need more cargo space in the way-back and they may want a more luxurious interior. The Defender may actually help sell...

    LR4 vs Defender

Same here, never expected to keep my LR4 this long but I figure the upcoming 8 years/150K miles will be the limit. Still absolutely love it and glad we will still have my wife's LR4 which only has 31K miles on it. I also thought the Discovery 5 was a huge disappointment as an LR4 replacement...

    Another Defender hint?

Every new Defender video I watch brings me one step closer to ordering one. The underside of my LR4 is covered in rust from winter ski trips on salted roads and summer driving on a saltwater beach. The Defender would be much less prone to rust and corrosion. I already replaced one rear...

Back in for another major surgery.

Every time I read one of these threads it helps me accept the fact that some day I will need to part ways with my beloved LR4. Maybe at 150K miles I will decide that it has served me well and move on.

    Howto: DIY LR4 Alternator replacement

Is your passenger side valve cover leaking? Mine was and the oil was dripping into the alternator. My alternator was still working but the mechanic said he had seen this before and the oil would eventually cause the alternator to fail. This happened around 105K miles so I was fine with...

    Well crap!

The shop foreman at my dealer said they are well aware of the possible crossover pipe failures but have only seen one happen so far. He commented that it is probably more prone to failure in climates where it is warm year-round.

If we buy a new Defender soon it would really appreciate in value if JLR goes out of business.

    Another Defender hint?

Finally saw one in person. Was driving by the LR dealer yesterday and there was a green 110 sitting outside. Did a u-turn and came back to check it out. Was really dirty (covered in tree pollen) and locked since the dealer sales department is still closed. My first impression was that it is...

Timing Chains / Crossover pipe resolved?

Timing chain issue was corrected starting with the 2013 LR4's. (Different timing chain guides) Crossover pipe was also recently redesigned. No longer a 2-piece construction that splits down the middle. I would think that the D5 would have the newer version. Then again, it takes about 6 years...

Anyone here with a marmaris teal LR4?

I live in a small town between Boston & Cape Cod with a drive-on beach. According to the local dealer there are over 100 LR4's in our town. Most are white. We have 1 of the 2 red LR4's and the only causeway gray. However, there have to be over 1000 Jeep Wranglers in our town. Student...

    Well crap!

Oh no, sounds like the engine is certainly done. The way I look at it, once a vehicle gets to 100K miles I figure I got my use out of it. It will be a tough decision if you should just move on or drop in a rebuilt engine. Defender delivery is now months behind, but I bet you could get an...
