2012 LR4 with Early AMK Compressor Failure
Mine just locked itself in Normal Height today, right after exiting a low parking garage while in access height. Guess I should be glad I got 92K out of the original compressor. -

Heated windshields
Bill, I can only guess that someone replaced your windshield with an aftermarket brand that was drawing too much power and overloaded the fuse. Or someone put in the wrong amp fuse to support the aftermarket windshield. As for the battery in an LR4, it will fail faster than any other vehicle... -

Cold weather transmission failure
Our old LR3 did the same thing in -25 in VT. Drove for about 5 minutes, restarted and all was fine again. I think the cold froze the ECU and the transmission was fine. -

2012 LR4 LED Disabling...
So when you put the headlight switch in the position for the parking lights, is the entire front now dark? Don't you ever run the parking light LED dots along with just the fog lights? I have done that many times traveling to VT through blizzard conditions when the reflection of the regular... -

air suspension -- dumb question
As noted, you can lower it daily. We lower ours every day in winter to fit it in the garage with a roof box on top. D5 loaner I just had would automatically lower every time I turned it off. I do have a yellow post-it note stuck to the dashboard that reminds us to lower it to avoid scraping... -

While many think the front of the D5 looks like an Explorer, I just saw a Traverse parked next to a D5 and they look similar from the rear. At least GM centered the license plate. No wonder D5s blend in with all the other generic family hauling SUVs. -

Another Coolant / Cross Over Pipe leak...
If your coolant level is low and you don't see an obvious leak it's probably the water pump. My wife's LR4 coolant level kept dropping but no visible leaks or fluid on the ground. Turned out to be a slowly seeping water pump leak. -

Tailgate Actuator
Mine failed just after I packed up the LR4 with junk from my cleaning out my mom's basement. Nothing like unloading it all out the side doors. I had the dealer repair mine since it was still covered under warranty. They knew exactly where to drill a hole to release the locked tailgate... -

Another Coolant / Cross Over Pipe leak...
This crossover pipe must be a warm weather issue. I asked the service manager at a LR dealer here in the Boston area if I should replace the crossover pipe. His answer was that he has heard of the issue online but has never seen one leaking in our area. -

Frank8, you are correct. Now that I really looked for D5s, I saw 5 mid-day yesterday at the gym and supermarket. They certainly do blend in with all the other mom SUVs like the Q7, XC90, GLS, Explorer, Pilot, Highlander, etc. -

Thule Hitch Cargo Carrier on the LR4
My neighbor has one for their LR4 and likes it. Their family isn't very tall so they bought this hitch box instead of a roof box. I have an open hitch carrier that is great for the beach and hauling sand covered lawn chairs, cooler, big buckets and sand toys. -

My wife drives hers about 4K miles a year. I use mine for work (client visits & delivering jobs) so I charge the maintenance/repairs & gas to the company. Otherwise it would be an expensive vehicle to drive 30K miles per year. -

My neighbor's LR4 has 78,000 miles on it. Last month they had to replace the "fuel rail" on one side of the engine at a cost of $2000. She said she's done with LR and will be looking for a replacement. (And certainly not the D5 as she has had them as loaners and doesn't like it at all)... -

Honda Passport
I live in a town with a drive-on beach and about 25% of the vehicles in the high school student parking lot are Wranglers. By April they all have the doors off. Not sure that minimal side impact protection is a good idea for new drivers. Not to mention being top-heavy and clumsy in emergency... -

I'd be happy that I don't have to push the eco-stop off button every time I start the LR4. Actually, I would have probably disconnected that battery the first week of ownership. -

Steering wheel shaking after rotor/pads replacement
I got new OEM rotors and pads about a month ago. While installing the winter tires last weekend I noticed "Brembo" stamped in the rotors. That explains why the OEM rotors are so high quality. -
