    Does this 5.0 sound healthy?

I don't think you want to "assume" anything. Contact the shop that did the transmission work for more details. Replacing an LR4 transmission usually involves taking the body off the frame. To go through all that labor and drop in a used transmission with 110K miles on it seems like an...

    Does this 5.0 sound healthy?

^Exactly!^ Well said! This will be your biggest research challenge. As Quijote noted above, you need to study maintenance and repair records to separate: - LR4's that were traded because they started to give too many headaches and/or owner was aware of big repairs needed. OR - LR4's that...

    Does this 5.0 sound healthy?

I think there are too many red flags on this LR4. At a quick glance at what you posted there were already 3 owners. It was involved in 3 accidents. Then there is the transmission replacement: "The transmission was installed by a import shop nearby and was used with 110k miles on it." So...

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

Not to pile onto your list, but check to see if oil leaking out of the passenger side valve cover gasket was dripping into the alternator. Mine was and I replaced the alternator while everything else was apart. (I had the exact same list of items done at the same time)

    2020 Defender Design Team

After watching the Grenadier videos, I knew I didn't want or need one. I will never need to take a trip across a desolate continent. I do need a vehicle that is mainly an on-road vehicle with capability to drive through unplowed snowy roads in winter and soft beach sand in the summer. Our...

    Oversize tires for 2020 Defender

Another issue is winter tires. I checked the Nokian website and they don't offer a winter tire in either the 19" or 20" Defender tire sizes. One more reason I'll take my LR4 through winter and order a Defender next spring.

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

Maybe the extra detergent is the reason I'm still on my first fuel pump while my neighbor is on her third fuel pump. Both our LR4's have around 120K miles on the odometer.

    LR4 vs Defender

Owning two 2013 LR4's we decided to keep hers as the garage queen and put 121K miles on mine so far.

    LR4 vs Defender

And it's an HSE-LUX with rear locker. Not that she needs that locker on her 5 mile commute to work. ;)

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

And use top tier gasoline. I always try to use Shell or Mobil premium gas. My neighbor uses the cheapest regular gas she can find and has gone through 2 fuel pumps on her LR4. I never understand people that can afford a higher-end vehicle then are too cheap to buy the premium gas it requires.

LR4 Newbie - We have problems!

^^What he said^^ I'm on water pump #3 and the first two had a very slow leak that was just drops on the pavement under the front bumper. However, if draining the coolant to do the water pump, change out the front and rear crossover pipes as well. Not inexpensive, but it will give you peace...

    LR4 vs Defender

My wife has 31K miles on her 2013, so that is 15 more years before she gets to 100K miles. She doesn't want any other vehicle so I'll be here long-term as well.

    Another Defender hint?

David, I found something else to distract you from the Defender and redirect your complaining:

    Another Defender hint?

I'll try to explain it to you again...if you don't like the new Defender, then don't buy it. And I still don't understand all the complaining about something you didn't even buy. Looking forward to 2023 when you take all your complaining to another brand's forum.

    Another Defender hint?

Done...I asked one of the moderators for a separate New Defender forum. Then those of us that like it can move our discussions to there. Then you can relax and focus on LR4 issues.

    Another Defender hint?

Totally agree. It's time for a separate New Defender forum where those of us that like and/or ordered one can move on. D5 owners have their own forum where they can discuss the D5 without abuse from LR4 members. New Defender owners will need the same.

Rattle noise at passenger rear - outside the car

My high pitched rattling sound at the passenger side rear was the speaker in the back pillar. 2 of the 3 plastic mounts had broken off so it kept rattling inside the metal cut out. I used JB Weld to glue it to the mounting area. It took me forever to find this annoying rattle. I finally had...

    Hitch - cracked

I'm thinking grounded when pulling out of a steep driveway. The weight of the LR4 hitting it into the ground may have cracked it.

    Michilin, Goodyear or Nokian? (19")

I agree with ktm525. I tried the Premier LTX and they were so smooth and quiet. However, the tread pattern is very shallow and prone to hydroplaning in the rain. They also wore very quickly. Currently running the Wildpeak AT trail. A little more road vibration but they have been good in...

    Another Defender hint?

Not sure if a HEMI V8 and the Wrangler suspension and vague steering is an ideal combination. I recently drove with a friend on a 3 hour trip in his new Sahara. There were strong cross winds and he was constantly wrestling with the steering wheel. Upon arrival he said his arms were exhausted...

Thoughts on 2021 Bronco as LR4 replacement?

No interest at all if the Bronco's GVWR is under 6000 pounds. (Which I bet it is, given the lame towing capacity) I use my truck for work and need that section 179 tax deduction. 110 GVWR is 7055.

Let's try to get the facts down on tensioner issues

2013 LR4 with 121,000 miles Oil changed every 7500 miles with Mobil 1 EP up to 100,000 miles Oil changed every 5000 miles with Mobil 1 AP after 100,000 miles No chain noise yet.

    Another Defender hint?

Exactly my thoughts. I plan to take my LR4 through one more winter/ski season then order a Defender in spring. Mine needed a lot of parts and maintenance at 75K miles and I can't see "investing" thousands of dollars into it again at 150K miles.

    Another Defender hint?

While McGovern's $89K First Edition Defenders sit on dealer lots, this happens: You know you've got a popular product when people are having trouble giving you their money. When the 2021 Ford Bronco was revealed last night, we — and you, probably — noticed right away that Ford's Bronco...
