Regarding the winch, the same thing happen to me, but I have an old LR3 that I salvaged a winch from. I have learned that you have to keep tension on the winch line when winching back up. My Toyo 255/50/20 tires (31 inch) do not touch the heat shields. Absolutely no tire noise from the tires. So... -

This is the video that helped me feel comfortable with 31 inch tires without Johnson Rods. I know your looking for an objective definitive answer on 32's (without Johnson Rods), which I was too, but could not find one. -

I did have to remove the hitch to raise the tire up. I did not have to deflate tire to mount it in the spare tire area. Needed a little guidance to initially maneuver around heat shields, but once it was past the edge of the heat shield the tire raised straight up. The last couple of cranks... -

Perfect Fit fully inflated and trailer hitch fits - Toyo Open Country III Size 255/55R20. I will be ordering 4 new tires to go along with the spare. -

Thank you both. Very good to know the Toyo performed well on and off the highway. My single tire arrived (Toyo Open Country III 255/55R20) on Saturday. I will get the tire mounted then try to fit the tire, fully inflated, into the spare tire area with the LR tow hitch on. -
