2012 LR4 with 178k miles has developed a coolant leak. Here’s a video of where coolant is dripping - in your experience, can coolant from water pump failure transit all the way over to where you see drips?

Front crossover was done ~40k miles ago. I think it’s on the original water pump (I’m second owner since 75k miles).

Would you run some dye to pinpoint this? Take off the fan and try to get some better visual angles?

Thanks for any help!

Yea, I think you’re looking at either the water pump or the connector tube to the oil cooler. You can pop the fan off easy and get a better look

Water pump, oil cooler pipe, and some worn hoses replaced. Large leak is fixed, but I'm still loosing coolant. I ran some dye and checked around with the borescope and UV light - coolant is pooled down in the valley by the oil cooler pipe. At first I thought I must have tweaked an o-ring on the oil cooler pipe or something, but I see coolant seeping on what I think is the front crossover (unless it's transporting there from elsewhere).

Am I reading this right, @16FujiDisco ?

Front crossover was replaced by a shop at 108K miles, about 70K miles / 5 years ago. I suppose it could be time again...

That sounds like a good diagnosis. The T-stat and some other coolant parts can fail too that are in the front of the engine. At 97k mi I did quite a few coolant part replacements that included a radiator, t-stat, wpump and other coolant tubes were replaced besides the xovers. I'd have your radiator tested if it hasn't been replaced yet. Its part plastic too..

Good call on the radiator - I'll test that, and meanwhile a thermostat, both crossovers, and a couple other odds and ends are on their way!

Looks like it’s seeping at the seam of the crossover and running down into the valley; those 2 piece pipes are the old version, so I’d swap those for either the 1 piece plastic redesign, or the newest metal version. I just did mine with the official JLR metal front crossover. I went JLR for added piece of mind over the cheaper generics out there; cheaper ones can have o-ring and casting issues.

Right on - I was looking around for an official metal crossover for the 5.0 V8... I can only find JLR units for the supercharged engine. Is that your understanding too? Or is the front crossover the same between the two engines?

Ah, I didn’t realize you had the n/a V8; yea I think the upgraded metal pipes are only on the SC V6/8 models. There should be upgraded 1 piece plastics for yours though, and those are better than the original style

Both crossovers and a weeping thermostat replaced. Putting things back together.

Do I need to do anything before attempting engine start to prime fuel pressure after having depressurized that fuel line that crosses over the intake manifold?
