I don't get this "resentment" towards people who don't want to off-road their Land Rover. I bought the LR3 because I thought it was beautiful and it won so many awards. I love the interior and exterior styling. I don't off-road. I *personally* find zero fun in getting all muddy and possibly screwing up my vehicle. I drive it strictly on the road :)

I like the styling of the 22"s, I think the Redbourne Monarchs are beautiful and tasteful, not blingy (I'm getting the silver ones, not the chrome ones.) To each his own, right? No point in just being rude to other members of an already small community!

You're right mustbeaudi, im a ******... that damn sponsored links palate just below the top post always screws me up when I think I'm viewing the first post!

As for radionightster, im just busting balls... its a common thing amongst men you know..haha

I admit, I do love a properly up-sized wheel on a car or truck... but only if it's there for function first then styling. Not just styling alone. If they made a sport 2 wheel or all wheel version of a truck, sweet jam some 22's in there... but don't you think to do it on a 4 wheel drive vehicle is kind of an oxymoron and a bit sacrilegious?

Just think of when people put 24's with low pro's on a Hummer, you have to admit its just a bit ridiculous....

PS: From the looks and sounds of your selection you're doing it the cleanest & classiest way, but I'm still voting for you to save your soul and keep it looking 4 wheel drive'ish...

Personal opinions aside (very hard to do), I could think of better ways to spend $2400 (+another $1200 for tires) than to make my truck's ride quality considerably worse, even on road. Here in Michigan with our road quality 22" wheels would be torture.

radionightster....I don't know where to start with this one.

I suppose I can only speak for myself, so here goes:

I bought the LR3 for a number of reasons. First and foremost was for its (offroad) capability. I had wanted a Land Rover for decades (since spending a lot of time in a Series II while on a vacation out of the country). When I got the D3 I learned more about the brand and what it is really all about. I have taken the rig out and discovered what it's really made of over the past few years and now I love it even more.

Hell...long story short, buying a big freakin' 4x4 just to drive around on the road is just stupid. It's dumb. ...degrading the capability of the vehicle to make it look "kewl" is also a poseresque thing to do. I don't want the word "poser" associated with the brand of vehicle I drive. I don't want the Land Rover brand watered down. That is why I personally resent seeing LR's bought and used for driving to the mall.

Now that we got that out of the way...why not get your 22s but keep your stock rims and put some real tires on them and try wheelin it once; see how it goes. You can possibly screw it up on the road! ...so why not take a little more risk with it and have a lot more fun? ....and you don't have to go to muddy areas; this rig really shines doing technical stuff...look at some of NWoods' pics.

Finally, you must have had a notion after reading a few posts, that starting a thread about 22s would stir $hit up on this board. So whatever crap people fling at you, well....

Radionightster, I'm not going to give you any $h!# about wanting to put 22's on your
rig. As you said, "to each his own". But before you do, just take it offroad once. It
doesn't have to be on anything difficult or muddy. Just take it out and play with the
terrain response settings and explore a little. After you see what it can do offroad
and you are still hell bent on getting the 22's go for it! A lot of us who post to
this board are offroad enthusiasts, so don't take it personal if you get ribbed
about putting anything blingy on your truck. Good Luck!

LISTEN TO DUCKDIVE!!!!!
I bought my LR3 for my wife due to visibility safty and 3rd row ya I did the little off road course and then she wanted one. It made her feel safe. When I first got it I thought those rovers looked sweet when I was in vegas with 22" wheels n such. thought about pimping it out. Then I rembered the cheesy course we went on so I did a utube search saw hay this might be ok off road so I found a local club and whent on a run. Now this wasnt my first time off road I have had my fair shre off off road vehicles. WOW I am so happy I found out how capable this rig is. It was more capable than my cj5 with 33" tires and smmoth I was shocked. I am soooooooo happy I didnt go that way. Just take it off road 1 time call a local rover club or your dealer do 1 run If you decide THEN that this is not your thing Then go bling. We Chime in so LOUD about this becouse we care about rovers sometimes more than the owner. You wouldnt get Big Ben FLIPFLOPS to win the super bowl in?

I freely admit that we bought ours to avoid a minivan (best SUV seat package ever in the LR3, even an interiors engineer told me this once). No offroad ever.

On the other hand, 22s are so yesterday. SEMA reports say that the fad is passing from this year's show, even. It's a real **** 'o the ride, if that's what you want, but it will screw up your ride: you'll reduce MPG, greatly increase unsprung weight and likely reduce braking, cornering and suspension component life at the expense of a decent ride.

INHO (not worth much) better to get some take off RR 20s, maybe, to give a unique but factory look without going over the edge, and save several grand of upfront cost and depreciation for a more important use than this. Of course, I may have a few years on you, friend, that color my perspective.

I disagree that wheeling is the only reason not to do this, but I bet what folks say about that activity rings so true that it could even change my view of this family's ultra lux mommy mobile.

I think the 22s would look funny on the lr3

Someone mentioned off road capability, why the fuc did land rover put 19s on a 4 wheel drive off road capable truck? 19s came standard on my use and they wouldn't swap for 18s, already scuffed on up a little

Hey Radionightster - it's your LR3 so do what the heck you want with it! I know what you mean about the modern styling and if pimping your ride with 22's is your thing then go for it - each to their own! (Not my thing but hey, it's a free country - almost). There are a few folks here who like to profess that they drive the Moab off road trails or mud plug through the forest home each day. I think there's a lot of big talk with shiny LR3's that do the Starbucks/School run in reality - albeit with a few very notable exceptions. (this is where I duck for cover ...)

On a selfish note, I ended up getting a full set of brand new 18's with new Badyears (spit) for my HSE for a whopping $600 a few years back from just such an LR3 SE pimper ...  I do agree though that most gangsta pimped Hummer H1/LR3's look ridiculous - Escalades I kind of expect to see blinged out but not real 4x4's.

With respect to the comment about 19's on the LR3 - for the majority of folks you can get an incredible amount of off road use even from the stock configuration. Only a couple of gloopy mud situations challenged mine even with the CrapYears on them. Now of course you can put a real tyre on the 19's so life is good. Personally I've preferred the ride with the 18's actually but if it was just road performance I was after I'd have bought the RR Sport Supercharged instead.

Personal dislaimer: My LR3 HSE is my big camera bag that I bought to positively get me from A to B without having to worry about terrain, getting stuck, weather or road conditions. That probably means I'm 99.9% road, 0.1% forest/field trails with occasional play time in the mud/snow/track for the hell of it. That said, it's the 0.1% that matters

Graham...certainly to each their own. He was trying to understand the resentment on the board, so we were explaining it to him.
